Born To Slay 10,996
Everyone and their dog loves Katy Perry. Is Asia a closet Katy perry fan?
GagaDragon 10
Is Asia a closet Katy perry fan? Gaga was referring to Asia in Judas, you didn't know :O
LilVenusian 579
I dont think anyone considered BTW a genuine flop outside from the thirsty Madonna fans on Pawdown.com... Also nobody is checking for Katy's album sales lbr. If she keeps having no1 hits she'll still be considered a success in the mainstream media's eyes. Omegahedron 189
Because Gaga *really* kicked the proverbial hornets' nest when she pissed off Madonna and her crowd.
Noel Kahn 2
Because Prism is more successful than Born This Way in terms of singles. Born This Way Born This Way - 8.2M Judas - 950K TEOG - 2.8M Prism Roar - #1 5.4M Unconditionally - 1M Dark Horse - 6M and still counting Prism obviously have bigger hits and it's still on it's fourth single, Birthday, which is currently a Top 20 hit in the U.S. You may argue that it's less successful than You and I, but You and I is only a Top 10 hit in 7 countries, but Birthday is already a Top 10 hit in 6 countries and it's not even majorly promoted yet. It'll outperform You and I in the long run (chart-wise) and might even come close if not surpass in terms of sales. But either way, Prism is more successful singles-wise, and that is all that matters for general public. It might be worth mentioning that the general public doesn't care about album sales and charts nearly as half as us, pop music stans. They just turn on the radio and hear what's on. Katy being was in Top 10 for 69 consecutive weeks during the Teenage Dream era. People would easily perceive it as Katy being far more successful than Gaga. It's pretty much the same for the whole ARTPOP vs Prism thing. Sorry for being all lengthy but I hope people are getting my point.
Cersei 56
The GP work in weird ways not writing off a Gaga comeback, but sometimes stars do come back from the dead - but they need to completely die first File: Pink.
thefamefatale 264
Because Gaga's first era was very succesful album and single-wise and each era, the success has decreased continuously. On the other hand Katy has experienced the opposite. She becomes more successful with each era, even though no Katy era is as successful as Gaga's The Fame era. No offense but wrong. The Fame Monster exceeded The Fame, and Born This Way exceeded The Fame Monster in terms of success. The Fame wasn't even that successful. So stop please. don't be a drag

GypsyPrince 237
Is anyone still pressed that Born This Way didn't win at least one Grammy? I'm not saying this from a delusional fan's perspective, but I still think that the album, as a whole, did so much for society and it started a cultural movement. It represents so much about what's important in politics and society in this era, and commercially, it was still a success despite several singles underperforming. Ugh, the Grammy Academy really made a wrong choice on this one. Mark my words, years from now people would still be comparing her work to Born This Way. Birthday Boy 3
People has lower expectations for Katy. Which is a shade by itself :teehee:
Birthday Boy 3
If ARTPOP had come out after TFM, it would've been more successful than BTW since the music in ARTPOP is closer to TFM than BTW

blacklistedd 599
Gaga had pop culture in a vice grip and allowed it to slip through her fingers. I love Born This Way the album, but the era itself was a hot mess. She opened herself up to some harsh blows and didn't take it gracefully (and from that lack of grace came the era we're in now lol). And the singles from BTW were not absorbed by consumers. On paper the lead single did phenomenally but in actuality it was universally criticized and predominantly rejected/hated by the community it was intended to support. The Edge of Glory was the only single from the BTW-era that could be deemed genuinely successful and it was only lukewarm. Whereas Prism has garnered 2 dominant smash singles and massive syndication. Katy reached a peak with Teenage Dream that is continuing with this record. Shes never been massive in terms of sales but shes massive in relevance and pop culture dominance. Ronk 14,762
Katy's image is more indicative of an "American Sweetheart" whereas Gaga's image is more artsy, experimental, and provocative, which makes some people uncomfortable. Therefore, she's a bigger target for criticism. This. I live outside the space time continuum.
VforVendetta 2,024
People need to stop telling Born This Way is a flop, because it's far from that. It sold 6 million copies, 20 million in single sales, a $184 million tour and by far her most complete work. People say Prism is more successful because it's the most successful era from a female artist since a year.BTW is at around 8M now.
