You're forgetting Firework, Roar, Dark Horse.

he just put the songs that he might thinks are bad sellers for been #1's

i guess he is making fun of Katy and Rihanna #1's "low" sellers.

Β

That's why he didn't put Disturbia, Umbrella, We Found Love, Firework, Dark Horse, E.T and Roar because those passed the 4M mark

Whoa where did I say I was making fun of them? I even said that even though they have some low selling #1's, they're string of #1's "is extremely commendable". I'm just pointing out that while other's have #1's that are low sellers, every one of Gaga's #1's are all exceptional sellers. Of course Katy and Rihanna have monster sellers too, I never said they didn't. I was just trying to show that even though Gaga only has a few #1's, they'reΒ allΒ strong sellers, whereas Katy and Rihanna (who also have many strong selling #1's) have a few weak selling #1's.

I didn't mention those because those are very strong selling #1's, and the point of the post was to show how even though Katy and Rihanna have many of those (like the ones you posted for Katy), they also have some #1's that have arguably disappointing sales.

I guess I was just sick of seeing all the Gaga ragging on ATRL yesterday and just wanted to show Gaga in a positive light for once in a world where the average person seems to be intent on doing the opposite.

Basically all of Rihanna's #1s :laughga:

If Gaga had the luck and radio support that those two have, Paparazzi, Telephone, TEOG, and Applause should've gone #1

Hell even LoveGame and Alejandro wouldn't be too far fetched.

Paparazzi actually had the radio support. (It was her first #1 on the Radio Songs chart.) If its peak on radio (#1) and its peak on the Digital Songs chart (#3) lined up, it could have had a serious shot at #1. It kills me that it didn't. Applause may have had just the slightest chance at #1 if she had kept the release date for it as August 19, so she could get the debut week sales plus the debut streams from the music video in the same week. Telephone may have had a chance at #1 had she promoted the song here in the US the same week that the music video was released, to boost sales even more. I firmly believe that The Edge of Glory would have debuted at #1 had Judas never been released, since Judas arguably but a damper on the hype of the era. (Lord, imagine Gaga being able to get four extra #1's just from things falling into place better or tweaking just a few things.)And you're right, LoveGame and Alejandro may have had just a chance at #1 had radio supported them as they generally do for Rihanna or Katy Perry hits. Ultimately though, all these songs were successful hits, and that's what matters.

Congrats Gaga! This got me thinking though, is it better to have a fewer number of quality #1's or a greater quantity of sub-par #1's? (And by quality, I'm referring to the sales.) People always praise Katy Perry and Rihanna for their string of #1's in the US, which is extremely commendable mind you, but something they leave out is that some of these #1's have disappointing sales, with some even selling less than 3 million copies in the US. On the other hand, Gaga's relatively small quantity of #1's have all been quality sellers, with not one of them selling below 4 million copies in the US. Look below to see all the #1's songs by Katy and Rihanna that have sold less than Gaga's #1's. (In other words, they've sold less than 4 million copies in the US.)

With that in mind...is it better to have more #1's, with some/many being relatively low sellers, or it better to have just a handful of #1's that are strong sellers?

I think it's better to have less number ones that smash than more number ones that sell moderately. I still can't believe that most of Rihanna's number ones aren't smashes, even with the high amount of radio play and video views they get.Β
