There have been clues in other episodes. Remember when they were letting that dude go and they found two dead zombie security guards with no bite wounds? Or this episode, the prisoner guy had no bite wounds even though he was a zombie.

I think everybody is infected but they only show signs after they die. That's when the virus or w/e kicks in and reanimates them.

I don't get it either. The ending of the last episode was confusing.

From what I gather, all the walkers approaching Rick & Carl have just been hanging around feeding on livestock. But did Shane know something about the walkers? I don't get it (in reference to the person talking about the episoded where he stared at the walker approaching the farm). I probably missed something. :toofloppy:

I'm still baffled at how Shane got infected and how Carl randomly appeared out of nowhere... I thought Rick & Shane were super far away from the farm.

The reason why Shane and Randall turned into walkers is because everyone has already got the virus, and it only takes effect once you die. Everyone who dies turns into a walker as long as their brain is intact no matter how they died, even if they were never bitten or scratched. I'm pretty sure that's what that scientist whispered to Rick at the end of season 1 right before they ran out of the exploding building.

Comic Spoiler

That's why they called it The Walking Dead. Meaning everyone is already dead.

BUT what about the countless dead unscratched/non-bitten human corpses they've encountered along the way to the farm? I thought the same thing but it doesn't logically make any sense. Why all the sudden would any recently deceased body reanimate with or without zombie interaction when all of last season and the beginning of the second season, they stayed dead???

I think that it is either a case of mild exposure, like how you can be a carrier of a disease without being affect by it. But if they were heavily exposed (ie their blood stream gets exposure due to bite or scratch) then they begin changing with the fever etc. But the hole in this theory is that Shane was demonstrating some walker like qualities when he was still alive (his little rage fits anyone?) so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

But either way the show hasn't really been consistent. In the first few episodes everyone was saying don't get the walker's blood on your skin yet everyone has been covered in walker blood and no one (other than Shane) is showing any signs of being infected.
