Look at the charts peaks. Applause was clearly WAY better. Like by miles. And by sold about the same, you're talking about the US where Applause sold 400k more. Let's not even talk worldwide.

 

And concerning comparison between Ariana and Xtina's albums, I guess you should consider Ariana bigger than Britney Spears now since her album had more sales than Britney Jean? Britney and Xtina are at a point in their career where their sales don't matter that much anymore. Your argument doesn't work.

Currently she is more popular than Britney is, Ari is at the part of her career where the GP like her. She is more popular.

And 400k isn't far away, I'd say that's close
