Two friends meeting in real life used to be more fun without both of them taking phones out to tweet where they are or take a selfie or check their timeline. People forget how to talk without all the smilies. She is saying, if you're able to see your friend, go get up and see him/her. Hug in real life. Don't just send tweet or whatever. That is her point. She knows what's the value behind interaction with users, and fans... She is talking about online intimacy. And it's nothing new to discuss, it's still a hot topic around social media. Most of her fan base are friends with each other online plus it looks ironic and demented that she posted this on instagram :air: we know she cant tell everyone one of us this in person but dont shame social media if thats your only platform to communicate with your fans. Sheobviously understands that you can't all fly to the nearest continent to meet your online friends. But if you have friends who live a close driving distance and you choose to tweet them, there's something wrong. Oh and look the "we're fans but it doesn't mean we have to agree with everything!" She doesn't fail to realize this. Gaga is talking about substituting online interaction for real interaction. She is referring to friends and family you see in real life and how we make less effort to connect to them, because we substitute online communication for speaking to them face to face or even calling them on the phone and having a long conversation. Tweets and instagram is a nice way to keep up with those who are miles away or are casual friends, but it shouldn't take the place of making a real effort to meet up and spend time with family and friends that are in your life on a daily or weekly basis. It's very clear that what she's saying is if you have a close friend that lives near you, then you should meet up with them, show love and have a conversation with them instead of texting or communicating with them via social media which I actually agree with her on because if you become too dependent on communicating with your close friends through technology then your friendship starts to deteriorate and eventually it slowly fades away. I was waiting for someone to say thing. We had an assignment on technology and if it hurts or helps friendships, one semester in college. I really don't think she's looking down on online friendships. I think it's about the people that can easily see a friend, some that even live down the street, but instead they would rather do everything by text or instragram. Don't ignore the people right in front of you.
