MonsterOfSpain 8,307
The thing is that Pharell was on Blurred Lines, Get Lucky and now Happy. Also his other song Marilyn Monroe seems to be forming into a hit as well. I agree with you that he is nothing special , in fact I majority dislike him but you can't really say that he didn't have success when he was part of the biggest and hits of 2013-2014. Still after all that smashes his album is flopping. I hope Marilyn Monroe becomes a hit tbh, it's so much better than Happy
Luc 4,775
Ariana's first debut single sold 220K the first week. That's before anyone outside of her Nickelodeon fanbase even knew who she was. Now, with a catchier song and the hottest "rent a rapper" involved, of course she was going to do way more than 150K and better than her last debut effort! Momentum is momentum, and AG has it right now! Ariana had way more than a Nickelodeon fanbase. LOTS of people viewed some of her covers before her debut single (including me), and she quickly became popular through word of mouth (all straight boys think she's s-xy and cute and tell friends about her, she gets lots of social media attention) and with her debut single she already had a bigger first-week than Gaga with Applause. Honestly, so many people have seen these videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SawLM-aCgdY had ~20M views before her debut single OH MY GOD I JUST FOUND THIS. Still after all that smashes his album is flopping. I didn't say Happy wasn't a hit duh that would be delusional since in less than a month actually it will outsell every Gaga single except Just Dance and Poker Face, but it isn't that huge smash everyone is making it out to be don't follow my instagram (trying out reverse psychology)

If the song outsells Bad Romance now while it still is in the top 3 of iTunes I am afraid that will outsell Just Dance and PokerFace as well, at least in the US. I know that it didn't have the same impact but when it comes to sales its huge, just like BL and BL and probably will end up even more.

Have you seen the countless videos covering this guy? Or the woman who died in a car crash while posting 'happy actually makes me happy' on her FB? 'impact' is overrated anyways. Gaga's most impactful songs are probably Born This Way, Hair and Marry the Night. Not Just Dance, Poker Face and Bad Romance.

NathanC 938
I think CGIB is the US single and MM is the WW single lmao so funny! Yeah made an "impact" on 12 year old Tweens... Horrible horrible songs...
Luc 4,775
I think CGIB is the US single and MM is the WW single lmao so funny! Did Poker Face or Just Dance influence the lives of anybody besides Gaga and her team (and the fans who became fans)? Did people refrain from commiting suicide after hearing JD or PF? I don't think so.

Honestly, so many people have seen these videos Some straight boys want to **** her,(Same thing with Katy and "her rack") not buy her first silly pop song. Now, Problem is a little different because it is more R&B with another GLTF as a collab. That's a song they can get into, due to those factors. Straight guys don't care how good a pop star looks, they aren't going to buy some pop tart single or album just because they want to **** the girl. The pop tarts have to find a way to make the music more interesting, by adding rappers or doing R&B s-x type songs or Alt. Rock type music. What does Applause have to do with Ariana's song in this discussion anyway? We were discussing Ariana's first two singles and expectations for this one. Why throw that in there? No one said she was doing badly and I certainly didn't!
