Yes, because Gaga is always related to gays and despite that I support the gay community and their rights, I feel uncomfortable being seen as someone I am not. I'm just open with my tastes with people that I know and trust. I remember that last year I was talking with two friends before class started, then they started to sing and ask me to join them, but I refuse, so one of them said "Oh, I think we should sing something of Lady Gaga" and started to sing Alejandro around me  :noparty:

YES omg like its just awkward to say her name 'lady gaga'; I guess cause I don't talk about her in real life much? Idk but physically getting her name out feels uncomfortable

Like I'll say I listen to Lady Gaga and people look at me like I pulled out a ****ing gun.

YES I relate to this so much that I screamed when I read it! I can 1000% feel what the OP is saying tbh, but I wish it wasn't that way  :toofunny:

I have a hard time because so many people just don't understand her or her fans so I feel like there is so much judgement when I say I love Gaga. But everyone I see on a daily or weekly basis, or family(aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, etc) all know how much I love and care about Gaga so I don't feel weird saying anything about Gaga around them.

I just think those who don't know me don't understand.

I'm proud to be a Stan of Gaga and all the others I Stan.

I'm also proud to day who I like and what's like about them no matter how obscure or perverted my opinions are.

I do and I don't. I don't have a problem telling people I like her if people start putting her down. I was at dinner with my brother-in-law and his GF one night and we were talking about how his GF is a Katy Perry fan and I was just saying I didn't share that (politely, I might add), and he pulled the, "At least Katy Perry can sing unlike Lady Gaga!" when none of us had mentioned Gaga. So he got shut down after that. lol That statement alone makes it pretty clear he's never taken the time to see either of them perform (he's a music snob anyway).

But, I'm not terribly eager to bring her up in conversation. I casually mentioned that I couldn't attend a friend's party because I was going to be in Ft. Lauderdale on May 3rd and people were like, "Why? What are you doing? OMG" and basically all up in my business. So I kind of stammered about going to a Lady Gaga concert and got the looks of judgment. Someone offered, "Oh. I really like Ft. Lauderdale."

I am very proud of saying her name when people ask what music I like.

And if they have a problem with it, I ask them why. And then, I systematically cut their superficial arguments in half. (it's happened several times)

Totally agree with this. I'm a psychology academic, so I talk hard core issues and studies with people all the time who never see the whimsical and creative side of me. These people don't know me that well and also have preconceived notions about Gaga/fans of Gaga, so I feel like I'm going to get judgment from them about it.
