The song has been somewhat stable so that's always a good sign that it hasn't downright fell off iTunes. It's not getting enough US vevo streams to make a difference and tbh Letterman isn't great promo so she's still at the beginning stage. All we can do is request and hope that all the major stations pick it up.

299. Lady Gaga - G.U.Y.

326 -1 LADY GAGA G.U.Y. 4.383 +0.032

I'll start worrying once it's higher on radio than on iTunes

The song hasn't even started to take off ..... a sleeper hit would mean a song completely ditched for months and months and then all of a sudden smash just like Ellie's Lights in the US few years back or Gaga's Just Dance when it peaked almost year after it's release.

Post album singles usually take longer time to start picking and even more if that's Gaga single :smh: in month from now we could be able to say whether the song is flop or not but right now we could only support it and nothing more it's the radio and GP that will define GUY's success from now on.

Im so happy for her. After the absolute failure of Made in the USA, i thought era was over.

Radio didn't want it to be over! Demi's rise on the charts has outpaced her iTunes placement, but that's how also how Heart Attack performed on the charts. Radio WANTS Demi to have a top 10, top 5, or a #1! There are reasons for that, just like there are reasons for the sudden surge of black males in the top 5-10. Oftentimes, radio has an agenda! ;)

Look at this Pop update for Neon Lights yesterday: -0.046  today:  + 0.528

I don't know why regulars in the charts thread don't understand that songs jump back and forth from negative to positive updates, but they don't. :smh:

She needs a REAL performance though.

Letterman is really a platform for a song that's already a hit. I knew before it even happened that she'd get no boost. They don't buy music.

Idol, MTV Movie, even GMA are more impactful.

People buy music on Letterman, too, but they have to LOVE the song. G.U.Y. is ok, but it doesn't just…. hook you live. These days people will only buy something that blew them away, not something they kind of liked.

Well, here's to hoping that I'm completely wrong and G.U.Y. is a huge hit for her after all that's said and done:) She needs it and has worked hard.

The irony is that DWYW is a marginally better pop song than G.U.Y.

That's the reason it hung on to the charts as long as it did, without a video. G.U.Y. is just not that likable or great of a song and the video is ambitious but doesn't draw one in. I tuned out halfway through - and I am still able to get mesmerized by the Bad Romance vid.

G.U.Y could have had a better go at it via a terrific, really s-xy video that drags the watcher in, with a killer director at the wheel.

This is not what happened, unfortunately.

I think the radio will give it a boost and then it will fade pretty quickly. By then the tour will start and hopefully the focus will be on that.

Wrong. It is exactly what happened. G.U.Y. has a terrific video.

The director talk doesn't belong in this thread- it is Off Topic, and you have already pushed and discussed that subject in other threads.

That's your personal opinion on the song. We will see what happens, once it has enough airplay, for long enough, to reach a wide audience. It's impossible to call at this point.

No, they really don't. I've followed enough artists to know that the Letterman bump is tiny!

I agree. She needs a performance that will draw people in close to her age demographic.

Of course, most of the money comes from touring, forget album and single sales...
