Not-so-feminist Gaga?

I've been troubled lately with what I see as a pattern with Gagz. Partnering with Rick Ross, R. Kelly, and Terry Richardson, it seems that quite a few of her collaborations are super tone-deaf to women's issues (all these guys are super rapey/gross, and not artistically great enough to justify looking past their wrong-doings). On top of that, now I hear that she said in a recent interview:

“He’s totally in charge. I mean, when I am home, I am like, shoes are off, I’m making him dinner. He has a job, too, and he is really busy! I’m in charge all day long, the last thing I want to do is tell him what to do. It’s not good for relationships to tell men what to do.â€

For being so socially forward on LGBT issues, I find this streak in her pretty troubling, actually. Feminism is about choice, sure, but I can't ignore the fact that she seems to have a pretty huge blind spot on women's issues. "It's not good for relationships to tell men what to do." I'd say it's not great for any relationship for people to be controlled or told what to do, both for men AND women. And thinking its great to have the "man in charge" instead of an equal partnership seems really antiquated and disappointing to me coming from one of my favs.

Am I picking up on something, or reading too far into her actions and words?

I don't really care, but it's pretty annoying when she says how everybody is bad and she was raped or whatever and  at the same time doesn't mind hanging out with most of the "bad" guys in the industry (same she claims to fight against) :toofunny:  Anyway, it's her business, I respect myself.

I think she means it both ways tho. She might let Tay be in charge in some aspects, but she won't allow him to tell her what to do.

"I’m in charge all day long, the last thing I want to do is tell him what to do."

Letting men do what they want has nothing to do with feminism. Not every woman needs to be an astronaut to prove that she is strong. People can do whatever they want in their relationships.

Yeah, that's another good example. I mean, whatever, she can do what she wants (and obviously will). I'm just a little disappointed, since she's super progressive-ga everywhere else.

I sense a PR cleanup

? Like, saying that Taylor is in charge is good for her PR? I don't see how, but maybe it makes her more relatable?

Right, but she also said he's in charge. Obviously, whatever works for her is awesome, but saying "woohooo, its so great to have a man in charge, it's not good for a woman to be bossy" is a far cry from how liberal she is on other issues.

No, the fact that she's going to have to explain this and clean up the mess that is going to ensue is what a PR cleanup is

Hopefully her team will handle it quickly

That's her choice to model her relationship in anyway she pleases. Sure it may seem like a shock that she likes it that way but it's also like you said. It's all about personal choice.

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

She's the boss & in control all day long every day in her career...

I think she's saying that when she's at home with the people she feels comfortable with, she doesn't want to be the boss & in charge. she just wants to be the opposite.

Um are you ****ing serious? :rip: Just because Gaga likes taking care of her man that means she's not a feminist? Wow that's so ignorant. Do you even know what the definition of a feminist is? Stuff like this is probably one of the reasons why Gaga said she wasn't a feminist that one time and it's why women like Gaga and Beyoncé have a hard time connecting with other feminists. Wow this is so ignorant :rip:

And the funny thing is that Gaga even talked about all the people who say she's not a feminist because she said she likes taking care of her man in some interview :gaga:

“Any kind of feminist has valid views for herself about what it means to be a feminist, but, as a new-age feminist, I would say I quite like the transference of strength I feel by submitting to a man – being under him. I actually wrote a song about it on my album, it’s called GUY and it stands for Girl Under You. So wearing make-up, smelling delicious and having suckable, kissable, edible things between your limbs is something I find strengthening because I know that when I pick the right guy, I can let him have it. Some women feel oppressed by make-up and clothing, and here’s to them, they have every right to feel that way as well.â€

â€â€Lady Gaga for Stylist

So yeah Gaga is a feminist who likes acting submissive for her boyfriend, wearing makeup, wearing high heels, wearing different wigs and likes lots of glittery, girly things. There's nothing wrong with that. Not every single feminist has to be some bra burning cave woman who hates men.

And what's wrong with Gaga working with R. Kelly? Did you not listen to the lyrics of Do What U Want? Gaga chose to have him on the song for a reason. She connects with him because the media writes things about the both of them all the time and its all lies. Also, in Do What U want Gaga says that R Kelly can do what he wants - she's giving him permission.

And the Terry Richardson stuff is all rumors. Absolutely no proof any of that **** happened.
