Adakam 2
Gaga explained those performances tho...I imagine soon she'll explain this one as well, but the INITIAL reactions are obviously gonna be Doesn't mean they WON'T ever get it, but for now... hmm, then whats your point? those performances i mentioned are branded by many as her best, specially Paparazzi, and all people saw the first time was a girl who possibly had a penis, doing weird faces, and then bleeding out randomly while singing about paparazzis its the same effect, controversy and weird stuff gets people interested, and gets people to look more stuff about her, just doing something like singing G.U.Y with a kewl outfit and a nice choreo would have been forgotten in 5 minutes
Miel 15,009
We keep going to rape (some people heard her say rage, but its hard to say) The way Swine is, I think its better explained as a metaphor for pretty much any sort of dark manipulations, rather than just dress it as rape. Makes it seems more encompassing of any number of issues she has had. Swine more than likely is an encompassing metaphor for a multitude of issues, just as how the Marry the Night video is also an encompassing and collective metaphor. However, I feel like Swine (and, the MTN video) point directly that there was some sort of s-xual abuse that happened in her life, whether it be non-consensual or consensual in the sense that she may have been coerced/pressured. I remember at Swinefest her mentioning that the people she hanged out with made her "*** feel like trash", ans something about her being hollow inside. I don't know 3 points in and ready for more
Jeff Kunst 0
It does matter...since when did the GP not matter to a pop star or her career? I think its pretty clear now, and has been for some time, that she doesn't give a **** about that anymore. You're behind. I mean, how could it be any more blatant than her screaming "**** you pop music, this is ARTPOP"?

Retep 0
We keep going to rape (some people heard her say rage, but its hard to say) I think many heard this more due to her explaining Swine was about some dark s-xual experiences she went through in life that led her to not even enjoying s-x since she saw it in a different way due to the event she didn't comment on prior to this. That's of course if she did say 'rape', given the feed it's hard to see 100% but I personally think the performance and song itself makes sense with that being the subject matter. Jeff Kunst 0
It does matter...why do it if you don't want people to understand at least in SOME way what you're doing? The existence of this thread means some people are getting meaning there.

dy2light 31
It's been such a strange night reading people's reactions to the performance at SXSW. There are some people who are convinced her career is somehow over, just because they did not like what they saw. There are people who feel personally offended, simply because Gaga no longer stays still in the pedestal they had built for her - but do you realize how unfair that is? Let us not forget what this song is about. She said it before beginning to perform it. This song is about rape. This song is about taking that shame and darkness and learning to make love to it, make art out of it. So for those of you who don't "get it" and think it's "vile" (a word I saw around a lot tonight), let me explain. I am a victim of rape and I personally have lived what Gaga did on stage. You live, and suddenly someone vomits all over your essence, and leaves you so dirty, the kind of dirty you feel you can't scrub off no matter how hard you wash. It just keeps pouring all over you with every day that passes as you relive your experience over and over, willingly or unwillingly, you blame yourself, you learn to be comfortable with the vomit, because perhaps you deserved being puked on. Perhaps you were looking to get puked on. The turning point of the performance for me was that Gaga kept going. Do you see what I mean? She kept on living her music, dancing to her own beat, got back on the bull and rode it, embracing the very source of her filth. I don't know if this will make sense to anyone, and I sincerely hope it doesn't make sense to you because you have experienced it, because truthfully nobody asks for the vomit. It just sort of finds a way to fall all over you. At the end, did you see how powerful that was? Her friends, from her past, hugged her and kissed her, never mind the fact that she was covered in someone else's vomit. That is recovery. That is the true path to healing. All I ask is that you try to see the meaning behind all this. She is just a woman on her way to peace and comfort, like so many of us. Oh my God.... Honey, thank you so much for sharing this. Very brave, very powerful, very important <
ModernEcstasy 8,998
I have also been a victim of rape. But I'm not on stage throwing it out there and making people uncomfortable. Everybody is entitled to their own views/ opinions. This is, after all, a difficult subject to touch upon. I just didn't like how she threw it in everyone's faces. Jeff Kunst 0
I don't know what that means tbh...you explain it to me, cuz I thought she was a pop star who made pop music... She is a performance artist who used pop music and celebrity as her mediums of expression in the past, but now she's really blatantly going outside the expectations and boundaries of pop music. As for the meaning of the performance, maybe her intentions were different than the OP's interpretation but if so that's fine. Art is not limited to just extrapolating the artist's exact intentions. Meaning is created by the act of interpretation.
