freebit 6,240
And when she returns with her new album, it’ll be so sardonic for her, because she knows what people are really like. This is what I've been thinking about in regards to all this backlash. I do think it might end up being good for her because I feel like she did put a lot of stock into charts and commercial success before this. She said otherwise, but it felt like she was saying it because it was a good thing to say, and she probably believed it on a superficial level, but until one experiences a situation first hand you don't really get it. With ARTPOP and some parts of BTW it felt like she was writing for us, not for herself (the songs that make a statement rather than give any personal insight). I hope this encourages her just to do her, and create for herself again. No need to pander. In her original verse for DWUW that goes "my body belongs to you onstage" or whatever, I was like no, it doesn't, and shouldn't. What happened to that free b---h? Little7Monster 0
The newness of Gaga has cooled down. She is still relevant, but her "weirdness" can no longer support her. She made much deeper music a while back, but now (even though her work is still good) it seems very forced. She is perceived as trying too hard. Once she began adding all of her art interests into the mix, people saw it as a act of desperation to appear more relevant. While it is good that she is more than a singer, that is what people made her famous for. Most of the public could care less about the rest of her interests, they want great music and that is all. As her discography has progressed, her songwriting style has changed. The Fame Monster was about these various "monsters", and Born This Way had deep meaning, and that sparked interest, but now people aren't into the ARTPOP message. Sure, she is trying to bring the two together, and that is great, but it isn't working for her musical career. Honestly, if it were titled something else, it would have likely been more successful. I love the album, but people think it is a forced concept. She can label her style "ARTPOP", but as an album, the public didn't care for it. The larger group wanted a Gaga album, not a Gaga concept. The music was very commercial and tame for it to follow BTW and her previous works. There was little depth to it. Sure, if you are a die-hard fan you've read interviews where she explains some of it, but as a member of the public, they just hear words on a song. BTW was very experimental, and a great album, but the management of it was poor, as is the case with ARTPOP. This is leading to the cooling opinions of her. She is still incredibly relevant, but if she wants to return to her previous level, she will have to work for it, and drop some of her public interests. Her activism is great, but the art idea is very forced from the public perspective. She is an artist, and I think she truly loves art, but the public likely feels that right now, to buy into Gaga, you have to buy into this art concept. ARTPOP is a fantastic album, but if it were titled after any of the other songs on the album, it may have been more liked. It sold well, performed well, etc. but the sabotage is coming from people not letting strange outfits win them over. Gaga will have to allow her music be her merit, not art or activism. She will have to return to her roots, pop, to reduce the sabotage. It has happened before, and it may be a "sell out" move, but it will get worse if she doesn't turn her management around, and start being a pop star again. She is doing well right now, but we all know she can be more. I love her to death, and love her music, but she is better than what has been happening. She is human, she is not perfect and things happen, but she is not 100% the victim. The truth is, she could have made a better album, and she could have sold more, but she released what she did. Is it bad? No. Did she fail? No. But in the end, we know it could have been more. It could have been better. Either way, Gaga is at a point where she will have to choose to digress into a niche pop artist, or return to her pop roots and work to build herself back to incredible heights. She is an insanely popular star, but compared to her past career, she is at a low point. By no means is she "over" but people are definitely less interested. ARTPOP can be her style, but it needs to be all about the music.
FGGrayson 9,670
USA thinks that it is the only country in the world, no matter how well ARTPOP does elsewhere it is still ARTFLOP. And that is disgusting. 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗮 • 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 • 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲-𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗿 • 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻
britneylopez99 0
So is Tumblr considered a reputable source now? Anyhow, the reason for Gaga's decline is very simple: the quality of her work has gotten significantly worse. very untrue.
HANZ 4,380
people love you when you are new and they know you won't be around for so long but they start to hate you when they realize you are here to stay My Favs = Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Ricky Martin, AKB48
HANZ 4,380
Gaga's personality has also changed dramatically with Born This Way. She's no longer fearless and mysterious. She has become preachy, whiny, and insecure, and that turns off a lot of people. agree with this one she used to be so fearless and had that mistery during the fame monster era but she opened herself a lot during the BTW ersaand since then the mystery is kinda gone, she didn't give a **** about what people think back on on 2009-2011 but now she is always crying on twitter about anything, making herself look "weak" and that kinda turns people off My Favs = Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Ricky Martin, AKB48

I loved that Born This Way was a celebration of us as a "family" and learning to love yourself for who you are, but I didn't want that kind of stuff flowing over to ARTPOP. Thematically it didn't, but lyrically it kinda did. - Previously Sycothisis

ARTPOP can be her style, but it needs to be all about the music. ^So much truth in these points. I don't think Gaga is "flopping" or going to fall out of the GP's minds. But I do think she should step up her game with the revival of ARTPOP, Act II or her next album, which ever comes first. (I know it's gotten old to compare everything to TFM, but I have a point here.) The videos and songs on TFM, were so well executed. The videos had meaning, they were visually interesting and stunning. The music was made, not for radio, but with radio in mind. It was made with radio in mind to change radio, not conform to it. This is what Gaga needs to do again. She needs to sit down, and set out her plan. I know that she doesn't like to look at music with charts and numbers, but if she wants to get her art out there, inspire people and be remembered for her art, those numbers will matter. Basically what I'm saying is that I really really desperately wish Gaga would pay more attention to details. The detail in the music of ARTPOP is wonderful and is her best to date imo, but her image, or brand has been so unfocused lately. Gaga will need a strong concept album, with pop structure, artistic metaphors, boundary pushing production, the artistic and boundary pushing videos that she is perfectly capable of making, along with a consistent promo schedule. This might seem like a lot for her, but she's done it before. She's perfectly capable of making this kind of album and honestly it makes me a little disappointed in Gaga that she seems to just be giving up and rolling over. It doesn't seem like she has the will to fight for her reputation like she used to. I wanna see Gaga with her game face on again. Hopefully the troubles she's had in the past six months will inspire her. I want to see her out for blood again. - Previously Sycothisis
JbGaga 2,261
I don't care tbh Lets blame god because people don't like Gagas new album. Like Jeeez people I cant take the blameing anymore. People don't like it. No one is "sabotaging" her.
Shawwi 0
For what? By stating that the quality of her work has gotten worse? We can't even state facts now? Will I get warning points for saying 1 + 1 = 2? No. You can state facts as long as it's not an opinion because facts and opinions are 2 different things hun. Don't get it twisted. P.S. Here's a none basic answer to 1+1 --> 1+1=0. Bye:)
WorkBeep 0
Imo it was the whole Katy vs. Gaga thing. It pinned two of the biggest popstars against each other making the GP pick a side. And before that it was the whole Born This Way/Express Yourself thing. I don't care tbh Lets blame god because people don't like Gagas new album. Like Jeeez people I cant take the blameing anymore. People don't like it. No one is "sabotaging" her. Oh please. Quality of music plays a small part in album sales these days. How you are marketed is half of it. Image is everything. Bowie 4
What a stunningly well written article, and a great read! Whilst I agree with it, it's not the only reason for her "decline" - which is more overblown that some might think - but it raises some interesting points.
