Forbes article shading Gaga

Since when Forbes cared about charity? They glamorize successful companies and the highest paid artists, executives, and celebrities. They are all about the money until now?

This.

let me translate that for you.

Blah blah blah crap crap and bullsh!t cause we not sure what to write about next.

Well, that's what I thought too :lolgaga:

Well the whole way to win tickets is to "do something Bold" so they're basically saying "Gaga is being made to ask her fans to do really stupid **** in hopes of winning tickets" (Not that I think she's asking them to do stupid **** but the article sounds like it is)

The ''stupid haircuts'' part just sounded so idiotic, like they took the ''bald'' so literally :laughga:

This makes me so angry.

It's about the music not the bling. But then again this is Forbes we're talking about...

I thought it was only an opportunity for fans to get free tickets

No you must do something 'bold' to get in (promoting Dorito's new flavour)

No see for instance I'm just choosing not to go to the concert. Free will and all that.

She's not forcing anybody to do anything. I mean, she's not Terry Richardson.

Well no duh but if you're a fan and want to see Gaga you don't have the option to pay like a normal sane person you have to do some whacky **** that Dorito's is saying to do to promote their flavour.

That's lame af if you ask me but w/e

"That’s why Gaga and Doritos are tasking fans with performing a series of outlandish challenges, or “Bold Missions,†set to be revealed on Doritos.com (and Doritos’ social pages) in the days leading up to the March 13 performance. In a YouTube video unveiling the campaign that debuted Thursday morning, Gaga announced the first Bold Mission.

“We’re calling it Bold Bravery. I want you to share a picture or a video that expresses your individuality through a bold action. What bold thing have you done that makes you stand out?â€

Dorito's using Gaga + her fans for more hits on their website and are going to use them to promote their Bold flavour....

I find it amazing that they published this without looking into whether Gaga would be contributing to charity. Then they had to publish this addendum saying, oh wait, she actually totally is, yet stubbornly implying that it might not be enough. It's very silly. They should feel embarrassed. They did the same thing later in the article again with the festival itself. If you have to publish more than one retraction, you should just take the damned thing down. This can't be how journalism - or even just blogging - works. There has to be some level of accountability.

By the way, she's a pop star. Of course there are going to be weird ways for fans to get tickets. It can't all be online giveaways. I've seen plenty of artists, including Gaga in the past, doing video contests, karaoke contests, scavenger hunts...

This so much. And btw, even if she wasn't doing it for whatever cause and just for the $, since when Forbes has a ****ing problem with people making money????!!!! :toofunny:  :toofunny:  :toofunny:

Holy **** he went in on Forbes AND Doritos:

[ADDENDUM ITEM #2]- . David J Neff posted in the comments about SXSW’s charitable initiatives. He writes “This year we have over 700 nonprofit folks attending (many on scholarship), Beaconfire Beacon Lounge is back, and we are honoring dozens of nonprofit folks at the Dewey Winburne Awards. http://schedule.sxsw.com/2014/events/event_IAP994838. I would challenge everyone who is dumping on SXSW on this thread to get involved in making it better.†A similar note from Andrew Auten reads: “Many of the events to which you are referring are not part of SXSW at all. They are independently-run events that have just sort-of glommed on to the larger SXSW event. SXSW has no control over them, as much as they might try….SXSW is not a “cash grab.†It pumps 200 million into the Austin economy. That is cash you can grab. It is a successful business that employs several hundred Austinites, pays them well with full health benefits, 401k-matching and vacation time. It is a full-time job where and army of very smart, dedicated people work the whole year just to produce one ten-day event.â€

Both points are true. Again, SXSW is good for Austin, good for the economy, employs Austin people etc. And I think we’re largely dealing in muddy semantics – SXSW the corporation vs. SXSW the huge event that for better or worse includes/envelopes all of the parties, free shows, and unofficial showcases that have “glommed on to it.†I don’t debate that SXSW Inc. is a good citizen of our community. I don’t debate that they give to charities etc. Or that they don’t pump money that doesn’t just trickle down, but pours buckets, into our community. I debate their tactics: their track record of providing lists to the city to shut down private events and the nearly $1 million dollars they get from the city annually when they’re so volunteer-based. I debate the way they overemphasize “safety†in their argument that unofficial SXSW events must be curtailed/stopped. I also believe while SXSW exerted so much effort fighting/bullying the events the can’t control (events often sponsored by companies in the same categories as their official sponsors), that the genie got so far out of the bottle it can never be put back in. And this is fact: take away the parties, free shows, and unofficial showcases and the value of the SXSW experience – the atmosphere around the event, even for as large (overgrown?) as it’s become- and you risk losing SXSW Inc altogether.  The city is clearly on the right page trying to control some of the sprawl of official and unofficial events. The idea that SXSW has to get smaller before it can grow, or before it implodes, is probably the right thinking. SXSW is a house of cards and Doritos is the Joker that weakens the foundation.

All of that said, the bulk of my original note was about how sponsors and marketers could be better citizens. How they could still promote themselves, throw parties etc, but also do good. Some of those sponsors are official SXSW sponsors, some are not. BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE, DORITOS IS A FULLY AUTHORIZED, FULLY SPONSORED OFFICIAL SXSW PARTNER. And I stand by the fact, that when we look back years from now, even if there’s a charity component, the combination of the stunts-for-tickets/giant vending machine that Doritos has wrought will stand as a symbol for when people changed their mind/said enough is enough/ felt morally queasy about participating in SXSW (Inc. or otherwise). And that’s a shame, because by and large, SXSW is good for the city, economy etc. But again, SXSW is a house of cards and Doritos is the Joker that weakens the foundation.

Sometimes, I feel like we’re debating Wal-Mart here.

Jk :derpga:

NOOOO! That never works! Stop acting like 5 year olds!

Look at this guy's feed and his description. He says he is a philanthropist. Fans should start sending him their Bold entries- their stories they are sending in of how Gaga helped them in life in some way. Send him personal stories about the BTW bus and remind him that it will be available again on her upcoming tour and Gaga is currently raising funds and drawing attention to the charity, in anticipation of that.

Fight fire with fire, and these kinds of stories would be the fire that would get to someone like him.

It's in the article and it's some David J Neff dude

He basically called out Forbes for not doing their research properly and Doritos for using the event as a promotion for them and not charity
