Also, the live instrument and vocal definitely make TB and BoG much livelier then the Mayhem version. Not to mention that "Eden-eden-ede-" part at the Garden Of Eden really is the perfect last touch. But I'm not a big fan of new rendition of Vanish Into You, sound like she was just singing wahtever came first in her head on the stage. NUTELLA 29,245
MAYHEM has REQUIEM beat on every front except for DWAS BUT... the reworked SOAM is quite pretty She made the right choice, teasing the event with that particular song 1
Lucas 31,444
Given that Requiem is still only on Apple Music, I heard the music only once, so lemme go full MAYHEM here. 2

princedeeblebleble 3,757
2bh I only kind of prefer Abra, DWAS, HBDYWM and Blade of grass. Most other songs had so much potential but she was edging us for the songs to almost not go anywhere. The energy for Disease, GOE and Zombie was great, but I felt like some of the songs should have exploded at one point or another.

Ladle Ghoulash 55,183
A lot of ties in my book, tbh. DISEASE - Tied. Love the maximalism and explosiveness of the OG, but the gothic industrial synth flavor of REQUIEM and how the tension builds under the surface and explodes towards the end is so satisfying. ABRA - OG, but REQUIEM is no slouch. The quasi-medieval/gothic balladry of the intro exploding into a deconstructed techno reimagining is so satisfying and really exhausts almost every facet of what I love about the song. My biggest gripe is that the arrangement for the bridge, which is one of my favorite parts, is subpar on REQUIEM. Had she done something closer to the arrangement for the bridge she did on the Grammy’s, the REQUIEM version could feel like the definitive version, imo. GOE - Tied. I love that she brought out the sleazy, glam rock/new wave flavor under the surface in the original, but the synthpop maximalism and the electro breakdown on the OG are delicious. PC - OG. I appreciate what she was going for with REQUIEM’s version, but I wish it built to a more climatic ending. VIY - Tied. The OG Vanish is stunning, vibrant, subtly melancholic, groovy, and yearning, while the REQUIEM version is haunting and gothic, a love song sung by a ghost. As of late, I find myself reaching for the REQUIEM version more frequently, but I also played the everloving sh*t out of the OG when the album came out, so lol KILLAH - OG. While I appreciate the jagged, distorted, industrial flavor of REQUIEM’s version, I think it was a mistake to fully remove the funky elements because part of what makes the song excellent, imo, is the tension between the angularity of the synths and the staccato lyricism with the sexy, slinky groove of the funk guitars. However, both bridges are excellent in their own right, but the adrenaline rush I get hearing the scream, the frenzied, bubbling synths underneath, and the build up to Gaga howling, “I WANNA FCK YOU LIKE AN ANIMAL” is so satisfying. ZB - Tied. The OG scratches a very specific itch, as I love the funky, slightly dark-sided new wave disco of it, but I am also so impressed with how well this song translated into a neon drenched synthwave track. I specifically love the vocoded harmonies on the bridge and the way the new arrangement seamlessly transitions into the OG outro. LD - Tied. The production on the OG is glorious 80s synth arena rock ear candy, but I’m also in love with how seamlessly the song translated into a somber, semi-robotic, quasi-gothic lullaby, the tenderness of Gaga’s delivery, and the layers of the vocoded harmonies. HBDUWM - Tied, leaning OG. I think the arrangement on REQUIEM, how it builds from plaintive synth balladry to incorporating the rhythmic synth layers of the OG is very satisfying, but the production and harmonic layering on the OG is just bubblegum pop perfection. DCT - OG. One of the weaker REQUIEM versions. Barely a reimagining, basically just an acoustic version of the OG, but sans the groovy synths and funky guitars. Falls somewhat flat, imo. SOAM - OG. I love the minimalistic balladry of the REQUIEM version and her vocals are excellent, but so many of the ear worms of the song are in instrumental parts that were stripped. Also, similar to PC: I do wish the song had build to a slightly more climatic finish, even if that just meant building layers of synths to make the stakes feel a bit higher. TB - OG. I was genuinely surprised by how much I loved the winding, ambient piano work on the REQUIEM version and I find that it I do get swept away by it listening to the album, but the anthemic punchy-ness of the OG alongside the guitar work really seals the deal for me. BOG - REQUIEM. A song I’ve always felt was well-written, but maybe somewhat overwrought on the OG feels like it really comes to life on REQUIEM. The arrangement evokes Mazzy Star, 90s folky noir, and has moments of guitar work that evoke the tension building in a lot of post rock. The atmosphere feels like a futuristic funeral dirge and it gave me a newfound appreciation for the song. DWAS - REQUIEM. Never been a huge fan of the OG, the arrangement is staid and the performances, while good, just never grabbed me. However, the REQUIEM version takes what feels like boilerplate department store background music and transforms it into a post-apocalyptic love song sung by a cyborg. The synths are phenomenal, the vocoder harmonies are rich, and the rhythmic and melodic rewrites give character and dimensionality largely absent from the original. I love how mellow it is, how it doesn't go anywhere... it's borderline-hypnotic. The OG song is so high-octane (in a good way) & the REQUIEM version feels like a melancholic reprise, like the perfect representation of a "requiem" for a project imo. But idk, maybe I'm just a sucker for that particular guitar melody. I even have a separate loop of just the first 32 seconds before any vocals come in 🔂

But I do love that guitar riff as well Edited August 7 by Ladle Ghoulash We have forgotten our public MANNERS
