Some has a country twist. Beyonce likely does well anywhere there are large numbers of blacks. Katy, she likely shares more fans with Gaga and T Swift and those 2 do with each other. CoolTrainerTerry 1,306 Posted February 13, 2014 Share Posted February 13, 2014 It's a shame Gaga couldn't go back to places like Phoenix, Arizona St. Louis, Missouri and Tulsa, Oklahoma She has a pretty good spot between San Jose's June 3rd show and Milwaukee's June 26th show But considering it's already mid February, I guess that she's just going to take a break in between then.. It makes perfect sense. She's not the arena sell out in America that she was with the MB, so more conservative regions need to be approached with care. But of course, there's lots of liberals in conservative states, especially in the cities, and Gaga only goes to the biggest cities in red states. Where there's cities, you find liberals, it's just a fact. And also, so-called conservatives can actually have very raunchy taste when it comes to music. The south has always loved the likes of Britney and Katy and Gaga did a lot of dates all over Texas with the MB. To say that the south only listens to country music and wants its pop stars to be as wholesome as Taylor Swift is an oversimplification. In fact, contrary to what you may think, Taylor's US tours are always 50/50 when it comes to red states and blue states and she tends to sell better in liberal states. Massachusetts and Pennsylvania especially - she sold out two stadiums in Massachusetts (over 110,000 altogether) and 3 stadiums in Pennsylvania (over 157,000 altogether). She did 3 arenas and a stadium in New Jersey and 6 arenas in California. The places where she struggled most of all were in red states like South Carolina and Oklahoma. Even Texas didn't welcome her as much as they usually do. I'm not as fussed if Gaga just sticks to states where she sells better. It's common sense. You should see Shakira's US tours - they're so limited to states that have a high concentration of Hispanics (California, Texas, Florida) and very, very few outwith these places. I hear Atlanta is one of the worst selling too. And most of the BTW cancelled dates that weren't brought back were in red states too. Katy's tour has far more dates in the red states. But she isn't counting on pop music to sell on it's own - she has Grammy winner Kacey Musgrave opening for her in country oriented markets. It's kinda interesting, but you have to think, not many tours go to some states. These include SC, AL, MS, KY, WV, MT, SD, ND, MT, NM, UT, Id, etc. Unfortunately, I live in South Carolina, and I usually have to drive 3-5 hours to go to Charlotte, NC or Atlanta, GA. Also, there are not as many big arenas or BIG cities in some of those states… SC's largest arena is like 12k people… some smaller in other states! Livenation would just understand that it's a business risk - with far more chance of not selling out, getting bad press or being protested.
