Born This Way is ahead of its time

I think Gaga has many songs that are ahead of their time in all of her albums. But the entire Born This Way album was overall ahead of its time. And here's why:

-I think Born This way was the first album to mix the past with the present and even the future in such a seamless way. Born This Way was the first album were you could clearly see major influences from decades such as the 80s and 90s but still sound modern and futuristic. Before this album, most of the music could be pinpointed to one specific era (60s,70s,80s,90s,2000s, ect.). Or you could even label most of the music as either modern or retro. However BTW its kind of its own thing despide it having many genres and or musical influences from the past. Now, its pretty common to hear songs with modern genres mixed with influences from the 70s, 80s, 90s ect. But before BTW, there just wasn't much of that.

That's why it won't be fully appreciated by people outside the fan base until a little while down the road.

Ellie Goulding

It's a compilation of 80's/90's hits.

The only "ahead of time" song is Heavy Metal Lover. Come at me :manicure:

I actually really don't think so. I love BTW, but it will remain encapsulated in its little BTW world forever and I'm ok with that.

We made fun of Gaga for saying it was the album of the decade, maybe Gaga was right... Maybe in 2020 people will fully appreciate and see the epicness of the album :udidnt:

Thats how I think of it too. The album is 'ahead of its time' in terms of lyrics and song content and some of the musicality is obscure but nothing too game changing.

Still remains my favourite Gaga album tho :gaga:

I've been thinking about this ever since the 'what albums were ahead of its time' thread.

It's influences are definitely retro (classic rock and retro dance), and many of its themes and subject matter are incredibly bold and progressive and incredibly... American. But, as somebody said above, I feel like its encapsulated in its own little world.

Music has been done like it, speaking broadly. However, nothing has really been like it, if that makes sense. It's such an odd album that I personally would see it as an obscure entity in itself, rather than solely comparable to other places in time.
