I think that the label was unsattisfied because they didnt hear commercial music so gaga went back to the drawing board and wrote more music. Cough-cough. The fact that she is working on this project a little longer than we are used leads to no conclusion about the opinion of label towards Gaga's new record. If you're not new here, you must remember how she stated in March 2010 Rolling Stone interview that she has finished Born This Way. And the record was released in May 2011, yep? Yeah, I think it all boils down to how fickle Gaga really is with the core material of her works. I know HML and Black Jesus were rather recent additions on BTW, so I think that particular situation was her having a continuous influx of new material. This leads me to believe it was volume 1 she played and they want volume 2 finished before any launch. That's it! A good question. I think we all should understand that the quality of Gaga's music is supreme, comparing to many other contemporary artists. Not only she is vocally capable, but she is also very demanding when it comes to sound and sonic execution. Recording the album is a hard work. When we were waiting for Born This Way, we constantly got the pictures of Gaga heading to the studios in different cities while being on the Monster Ball tour. Garibay later explained they were recording demos/ideas/sounds after shows and in hotels, and when the came to big cities, they entered professional studios. Yet, the fact that Born This Way was recorded on the road can be clearly noticed in the sound: the mastering/engineering/arrangement of the sound is very variegated. When you record everything in one studio, it makes the sound more smooth. And judging by what we have seen, this time around she's been working with Zedd in Asia, DJWS and during the break after Aussie leg she was seen in Chicago! After Europe she was there once again, and in one of her tweets while in South America she also mentioned she was "making rekkids in Chicago". It all leads us to the idea that ARTPOP is mastered there, in Chicago. I think she played the core of the new record to the label in summer, and once they approved of her new sound and lyrics direction, she continued to write music.
