You've completely missed the point of the album, and that's a shame.

It uses "sounds of the past" because those are the sounds that she heard as a child, that influenced her to become the person she is today.

Does this really look like the cover of an album that's goal is big sales?

The album was one big statement. Everyone gets so lost on this site in the world of crunching numbers, sales, charts, business strategy. "General Public", etc. etc.

It's so f*cking boring and I'm tired of hearing about it. How miserable do you people have to be to fill your minds with that useless crap?

Right because when making an album an artist's goal isn't to sell big lol. People like you tend to forget that this is a JOB for gaga as well. She isn't making music just for fun, she's making music because its apart of her contract with Interscope and you would be completely delusional if you thought that the ONLY reason Gaga made Born This Way was for her fans. And some of us here want careers in the music industry. Like me, that's why I'm so fascinated by her incredible team and business drive. There's wayyy more to being an artist than making music. Sorry not sorry.

Obviously she wanted it to sell. I think a better way of thinking about it is that she wanted to inspire controversy with the album -- so it would still sell, but there'd also be plenty of people who'd be turned off by it, and of course would tweet/blog/what-have-you about it, thus publicizing it, and getting her even more sales. But even with the sales, making such an album would tarnish her name a bit, because it was no longer the case that everybody loved her songs. See, if you go back to TF and TFM, even though she did controversial performances all the time, the songs themselves weren't controversial at all and just about everybody loved them. But in BTW, the songs themselves were controversial. She talked about this in an interview, and she was obviously intentionally creating this strategy.

And I think the 80s sounds weren't there for business reasons -- taking songs that were successful before -- but rather for artistic reasons, because she made this album for the fans, many of whom are troubled teenagers, so I think whether subconsciously or consciously, she put herself in the mindset of when she was a troubled teenager and the music that comforted her then came back to her when she was writing the album.

I think she'll announce in early August, sadly. Maybe one year after she announced the name (August 3rd, if I remember correctly).

On another note, if she doesn't release the album before the end of September, it won't get a Grammy nomination. And I can't just stay here and wait for 2015 to see if ARTPOP wins a Grammy, or not. I hope Interscope thought about this.

See I don't see it as a mistake, because I don't think Gaga ever intends to create music to chart well.  I just thinks she creates what she is inspired to create at the time.  She wanted to make an epic dance/rock anthem album, and I think she succeeded.  So I don't think she made any mistakes while creating it.  How can she have when it was intended.

You don't think Gaga creates music to chart well? :toofunga:

Of course she does, but it definitely wasn't her main concern with BTW.

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

This tbh. I don't even think that she cares a lot about sells, call me desilusional or whatever.

About Gaga not working with RedOne again, I don't know what to say. It's good to try with new producers, but It's bad too because he created her biggest hits. Let's see how the songs on the album are.

You should listen from 6:39 to the end of the video, she explains that BTW was focused very differently and that she didn't pushed boudaries cause it wasn't her goal.
