MahoganySnitch 67
If he really wanted help, he should accept the consequences of his actions. If he really has some mental health issue, then he should get himself some help from a professional, not Lil za, zee, or any of his other "friends". Personally, I don't care much about him, but the fact people are defending him for driving under the influence is just ridiculous. Every day around 28 people die due to drunk driving. It's gross to call people "insufferable" just because they don't want to defend some popstar who thinks he's above the law. Also: How will trending #monsterssupportbeliebers or whatever help anyone? It's just trivializing the problem
Bellatrix 34,639
This. I can't believe so many people are against this. Here's the summary of all the arguments against it I've seen: 1. "You can't change anything. The problem is too big. Tweeting positive messages never helps." Well, the same thing was said about slavery, racism, civil rights, dictatorships, and GAY RIGHTS. Just because something is hard, and might take generations to change, is no reason to not even try. 2. "I hate Bieber and I hate his fans for supporting him". It's never wrong to love. It's always wrong to hate. Many of you who hate Bieber fans probably hated them before Bieber ever did anything bad. You hated them because they loved Bieber so much and gave him so much attention and devotion. You were jealous. It seems to be human nature to be hateful when something we don't like becomes popular. But all great social progress comes from people learning to overcome their hatred of things they don't understand. 3. "Bieber did awful things! He deserves this!". Gaga isn't saying he doesn't. She's only being sympathetic to his fans who are probably very upset by Biebers bad behavior, and they don't need a bunch of hate dropped on them on top of that. Did I miss any other arguments for why what Gaga said was bad? :applause:
Sara 1,128
I admire her desire to change things for the better, but I can't fully support a fanbase that thinks it's totally cool for their idol to drive around so recklessly given the fact that drunk driving is a huge problem in this country and many lives are taken prematurely because of it.I don't think his fan base is not "totally cool" with what Justin did. They are devastated and hurt, but they aren't able to completely turn their backs on him just yet. They do still care. This is such a common human dilemma. Someone you care about does something really awful. Do you just abandon them? Or do you be supportive in hopes they can be saved? How many times to do you help them before you give up? Should you ever give up?These are not easy questions. My heart goes out to them for believing in something that appears to be crumbling before their eyes. They can't help but hold on to hope at this point.
Deacon 5
I'd give support to his fans if he had died. I'm not giving virtual hugs or fake sympathy because fans of a spoiled brat are crying about their fave getting a slap on the wrist for endangering lives. They need grow up and demand a change in his actions and attitude. The last thing that punk needs is to be coddled.
Lassex 1,169
No, I don't support him/his fans. This. But it doesn't mean I'm gonna start hating on him either, I just don't care about him. Edited January 24, 2014 by Lassex

Do they need to "grow up" and accept that? No, they are also human beings, staning for an artist just like w do. They don't deserve the hate and that is what Gagas letter is about. Haldy 1,062
It's nice to see Gaga encouraging support for people, but he was drunk driving. I won't defend him nor his fans who defend those actions.
Kayla 7,595
I love you, Gaga, for how positive and full of love you are, but I can't support Justin Bieber at this time (and yes, I do think supporting his fans is supporting him by association). I would rather help Beliebers by showing them that the things Justin has been doing are harmful to himself and to others. Encouraging their support of Justin Bieber is just encouraging their delusions that he's okay, when he's very clearly not. He needs help, and twitter trends aren't going to help him. The justice system needs to work its hand now. *Edited for clarification and expansion I agree completely. We need to support his potential to be better than this, not the things that let him be in this position in the first place.
Bellatrix 34,639
You can think what you want about this, but Gaga has at least gained lots of new respect from Beliebers and even others :)

They are supporting him in hopes his behavior can change. That's a big difference.Imagine if Gaga got caught DUI today. It COULD happen. It could happen to anyone. Would you instantly just abandon her and the fans?

What if he had killed somebody with his actions? Apparently he's getting off with just a fine as well, so I doubt he'll really take it seriously, especially if he's in some kind of downward spiral. I agree that you shouldn't kick somebody when they're down but everybody (including his fans) need to understand that what he did was extremely dangerous.
