Gaga Don't Preach?

I hear this stated a lot about Gaga ever since she started the BTW era. Do people really want just a shallow, pigeonholed pop star? No politics, nothing on their values... It's like people only want their entertainers 2D and yet PC. Aren't there plenty of celebrities engaged in political events and organizations?

And we don't have to agree with her views or her way of life to at least see where she's coming from. Do you think by using her public influence on issues she cares about that it takes away from her artistry?

Yes but at the same time a lot of people use music as a way to escape from things such as politics.

I don't mind Gaga's preaching tho.

The first time I went to the Monster Ball it kind of felt like church, but I loved that because for once truth was being preached.

Her intelligence and moral goals are a big reason im a fan of her

She has said this since since forever, "If your voice has revolutionary potential, you must make the world a better place and use it,"

I don't mind her preaching. I actually think that's one of the things that sets her apart from her contemporaries, that she is passionate, aware & has a message that goes along with her music and is not just your average "Pop fluff", most of the time.

BUT what I do mind is, when she contradicts herself. Which she has been doing somewhat, as of lately. With her sort of "preaching" has come a string of cringe-worthy statements that are soaked in contradiction, that upsets me to some degree. I just wish for her to stick to her words & be obstinate, no matter what direction her career is taking.

I do not enjoy Gaga mixing her preaching with the music, no. I wouldn't like all of the preachy dialogue at a concert, for sure. I just don't like it mixed with the music scene, unless it is used in lyrics in the songs. I would be alright with Gaga making a political album or leading some sort of benefit thru performance or album release. Then I can decide if I want to choose to hear or watch it, before hand.

I do care and appreciate that she stands for movements and supports important issues, I'd just prefer that she do it aside from the music and artistry. Her music is more of an escape from issues so far, so I don't believe that her preachiness benefits her shows or performances. She's also been known to talk too much preachiness in concert and put too many songs in combined medleys and that is super annoying to me. I am here the most for the music and not the message, unless it's fantasy with the music.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

she use to preach about how crazy and artistic her work was back when it wasnt that creative or avant garde. now that she's evolved, and has become the artist she set out to be, she preaches about other things more universally important.

I think her views are jaded and fundamentally I can't relate to most of what she says.

I like her music and her art, I like her personality and her intentions, but I don't care for a lot of her idea's and the way that she interacts with her fans. I think a lot of her views are misguided to be frank.

I appreciate her self-awareness and acknowledging certain topics in her songs. What don't like is when its ham-fisted in songs like "Bad Kids".  Songs like "Hair" and "Highway Unicorn" get it just right and give the song another layer beyond the musicality.

Exactly this.

One thing I have to say though, is that her "preaching" can get very tiring at times, for example this past month. It's been more talk than action in a way. But Smooth pretty much phrased it all. It sets her apart from her counterparts, but she tends to take it to the next level at times.

Except her preachi-ness right now is more like annoying parent atm.

And she herself seems to refuse objection goes her way, especially as of late.

That is not quite fair, isn't it?? She wannabe heard but putting ear condoms on her.

Dismissing critics. Dismissing fans that don't feel they way she does.

She was more uplifting and can mix well between music and being serious during Monster Ball.

Gaga has a right to express her feelings through her music, to tell her to do otherwise would be a restriction to her expression. At least the stuff she talks about is something from her heart and not the words of another :ohwell:

I do miss how she did it during the Monster Ball. It was a powerful message, but it blended well with her shows and it did not feel like she was pressing a certain point of view.

Do you think gradually, we've been seeing Gaga become more collective in her thinking? We know she is liberal and supports Obama. So would it be fair to say she's in favor of big government? I'm getting at, could this been going towards a socialist idealism of some kind? Or is she more moderate like a Hillary Clinton?

It's not shallow to purely focus on the music, the fashion, the performances, and the videos. Gaga herself once said "I only want me to be known for my music and stage performances"

Anyway, it's not surprising that when a popstar stops entertaining his/her audience, but starts to lecture them instead like a school teacher telling her real fans how to act, people will drop him/her with no hesitation. Guess many people thought the overbearing preachiness got in the way of the entertainment (this era it's even worse than the BTW erawhich in hindsight wasn't that preachy compared to this era lol)
