bad romance doesn't sample these songs. It's just a synth that's been used so many times.

Anyways is using the same rythm sampling?

I was listening to ribbons once and I noticed that when she says "all the girls they like their presents, like their presents" sounded SOOOOO familiar, and it's exactly how she says "I won't tell you that I love you, kiss or hug you"

I don't know if this is sampling or what not, but I thought it was interesting.

Why did you write sample in quotes? Sampling is a valid form of music--hip hop does it all the time.

have i been horribly misled all my life about what sampling meant?

This. Sampling is usually when they use actual stems, parts of the song, etc.

I think the right term for what some call samples would be chord progressions wouldn't it?...

lol, no. mathematically speaking its pretty much impossible to construct a song that has no similar element to any other made before.

sampling is literally taking sound bites from a previous song and putting in a different one. hip hop music is notorious for this but it happens very regularly and has been forever. i really don't understand why some people get so emotional over it, its a common practice.

someone posted kandy life, that's probably the easiest example of a sample. and one of the few correct examples.

Sampling can happen in a variety ways and it doesn't have to be the original digital part of the song. Technically I suppose it would be called a cover, but imo if it's just part of a song and the original artist is playing it, i call it the a sample.

I think people get emo over it bc they are stupid and don't know the history of sampling and the art of it. Many musicans, like Jay-z are revered for how well they sample.
