Interestingly, Shake It Off has a way higher percentage of male listeners than the avg song, and her percentage of 0-17 year old listeners is way lower than the avg song This Is How We Do, on the other hand, is about 75% female and has a WAY higher percentage of 0-17 year old listeners than the average song, only higher with 5SOS. It probably helped that she started out in Country, that has about a 50/50 male to female listening audience. Country fans are also extremely loyal. Taylor has managed to retain her fans from her first album 10 years ago. Those 8-21 year olds are now 18-31. Pop is different and Katy has appealed to younger listeners more with this era especially. I know several people who went to her tour in the US and they said it looked like a 1D concert with all the little girls and their mommies. IDK if she will try to change this or not next era or if it would even be wise to at this point. kids are a good market... look at this legendary flemish group... they have spent 26 weeks at the #1 album in the Netherlands, 56 weeks at the top of the albums chart in Flanders, 53 weeks atop the Dutch DVD chart, 114 weeks atop the Flemish DVD chart, have their own museum and have a big touring power. http://nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/K3_(muziekgroep) of course, they cater to even younger childs, but they can be great for sales, even when almost 50.
