The whole album slays me. I loved most of it in ways when I began studying it after it's release but man oh man did I continue to fall deeper and deeper in love with it and ARTPOP is now easily my favorite Gaga record.

Same. There are countless layers of genius going on in each and every song, it's dizzying once you start to notice them.

Do any of you guys think that Gaga planned for the album to flop ?

Like ever since "The Fame" Era she always talked about the decay of the superstar and how she fantasized about it. Then when the ARTPOP era happened , she was called a flop and that she was over and nobody liked her , now with Cheek to Cheek everyone loves her again ? :hor:

The whole decay of the superstar thing was actually a very solid kinda idea.. Woulda made for a interesting era. It is touched upon on DWUW and Princess DIE but not carried through the entire album.

yeah I understand but I mean when you see the headlines in the paparazzi video about her being over and her ending up in a wheelchair, little by little those all resonated with her, it's actually quite interesting

If you take Aura as an opening statement, "Do you want to know what's behind the aura, what's going on behind the scenes?" and Applause as a closing statement as in "I've finished the performance of this album, I've finished the story I wanted to tell. Now's the time to applaud." Then ARTPOP still tells the story of the decay of the superstar.

Venus is the Goddess she was before her "fall", she was at her top. Then sometime around Sexxx Dreams and DWUW something happens to her, she falls and the decay begins. Fashion! , Donatella and MJH are her trying to escape the reality of her decay in different forms of distraction (escapism through clothing & aesthetic (Fashion!), forcing herself to be prideful, somewhat shallow and ignoring her pain (Donatella) and finally after those don't work, d--gs (MJH). In Gypsy she finally finds rest and solace with Taylor/her fans.

It's interesting because in this view of the album, G.U.Y. is still a feminist song, but it could be considered the source of her fall and in the overarching concept of this view, Gaga could be saying that once you put yourself under a man (or as a metaphor, any thing or idea), even if you tell yourself you're still in power, once you submit and give the powers that be even an inch, you're f*cked.

Idk, just something I've thought about for a while. Especially because of Gaga's tweet about the theme of ARTPOP being "overarching" and not explicitly stated.

It's also interesting that in this view of the album the way the story is told and the main theme is presented makes ARTPOP itself an "ARTPOP art piece". She's trying to tell a story/get a point across that even though it isn't "POP" and the concept is more "deep" and somewhat "ART", she's presenting it on a pop music platform.

Hope this makes sense, I've been up since early this morning and I'm half awake.

I really enjoyed this album but I can definitely tell a dip in quality. The songs are actually some of her most brilliant but poorly executed. I've never able to single out auto-tune in ANY of her songs, but so many of the vocals on ARTPOP seem maipulated. This wouldn't be an issue for me if I didn't know how well she could sing. On top of that, the EDM aspect takes away from the melodies and she tries to compliment them with layers of monotone-robotic vocals.

MANiCURE at Itunes Festival was my secon favorite next to ARTPOP, but the album version is SOOOOO auto-tuned. Hearing it now makes me cringe.

The only songs really worth my time now are Venus, DWUW, and GUY
