Sparkly 2
No, this is different. There are people who honestly are only fans of fame and excitement and drama, like it's a reality TV show. When Gaga was #1, they joined the fanbase and attack other artists and made us look bad. Now that Gaga is not #1 they stan for Katy or Beyonce and attack Gaga. Those are not true fans, and those are the kinds of fans I'm glad are leaving the fanbase. Yes, bandwagoners are a story of their own but not everybody who is negative about this era is a bandwagoner. It's okay to not like something, it doesn't make you less of a fan. There is a lot in this era that is frustrating and making me angry, especially considering the potential it had. I have voiced my disdain for all of it before and while many try to stay respectful, I also understand that some people are brash and rude because that's also in human nature. If you go out on the street not everybody is going to be super nice all the time and suppressing this part and shaming people for it isn't exactly the smart way to go about it either. If there issues with a certain amount of fans, I get that. Some are very extreme and that's not okay. But this was so generalized, I can't help but feel offended. Stan wars are not serious, they're all in fun. It's like when fans of sports teams argue with each other, or when fans of different TV show characters argue which character is better/stronger etc. It's not to be taken seriously, and Gaga takes the stanning culture and internet comments wayy too seriously. Celina 118
I still don't get who people like you think they are to tell us whether we are or are not true fans. Using the term "true fan" is stupid in first place, I've never seen anyone using it in other fanbases. It's just that with Gaga people want to feel more important than others. It's used more often than you think, and quite heavily in the fan bases I've been a part of or kept up with. I don't really like that phrase either, but there are a few cases where I can give some credit to its use.

OK then, I havent seen it probably cause I simply dont care about this whole pop culture thing. I just thought that Gaga and her team and fans would be smart enough to not use it... Too many people here with moral superiority complex.
Brown Eyes 0
Or the 'we're all equal'? This reminds me strongly of 'nerd culture' where a lot of fans get labelled as not-fans because they haven't reached a certain amount of knowledge or don't spend as much money on stuff. And I have always hated it. With passion. If you like something you have the right to label yourself a fan. You don't have to follow a strict set of rules on how to behave and who to be in order to be good enough. This isn't a religion, it's simply music. Lol, it's especially concerning that she (Gaga) doesn't realise just how ridiculous her true fan criteria sounds. This mother monster/little monsters cult thing has gone way too far. A failed experiment in my opinion. I hope one day she denounces the whole cult/mother thing and that littlemonsters.com site and just focuses on being a great popstar again Edited December 25, 2013 by Brown Eyes

Using the term "true fan" is stupid in first place, I've never seen anyone using it in other fanbases. It's just that with Gaga people want to feel more important than others.I shouldn't use the term "true fan". But I will use the term "bad fan". We have some bad fans. All fanbases do. A bad fan is someone who acts with bad behavior in the name of the artist, and it makes the artist and the whole fanbase look bad. Or they simply have toxic attitudes that make the fanbase less fun for those who DO enjoy the artist.

Some people really want to be disrespectful, because that's how they express their opinions. I don't think calling them out for it is creating any kind of "hierarchy".

No, but telling them they are a fake fan is judgemental, you are passing a judgement based on what you think a fan should be. There should be no real fans or fake fans, we are all the same. You don't want to make ANY distinction between those fans and the fans who agree with Gaga's stance on respect and acceptance?
