LiveNation/TicketMaster did NOT discount the tickets. Resellers did - and only in small amounts (100-500 tickets for a few shows)

 

And I honestly believe that a hit doesn't help that much when it comes to selling tickets, mostly expanding fanbase (performances and interviews), media/social hype and big controversy I think.

You clearly arent inform on how the things went. In Brazil they discounted it 50% and after that, because people who bought at entire price protest it, they said that everyone who bought an undiscounted ticket can bring another person with them. I think in Chile they also discount it 50%. In Peru, they discounted even more in the last hours at the tickets gates. In Columbia there were smaller discounts, but they were. And after that, we have places like Uruguay, where we dont know about any discounts and yet at 26k attendance, she only made 1m and places where there werent discounts like Mexico, where she had a smaller attendace. If I remmeber corectly, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Argentina were the places were there wasnt discounts, at least no major discounts.

 

 

Note that a lot of artists have discounts and the first prices were ridiculous high, but the situation here was out of the usual.

And note that in Latin America people generally don't have much money, LiveNation probably overestimated Gaga's popularity among the upper class (which they were obviously aiming at). A country like Paraguay has a Mondial GDP per capita of ~$3000, and has a population of about 5 million people. The amount of money made there was quite good, considering it's a poor country with a low population density.

Sorry for the Paraguay mistake. The discounts were real. I watched everyday BTWB and I remmember most of the things that happen durring LA leg. I wont go now after sources, but believe me. If I made a mistake, that was probably to replace one country name with another, like I did with Paraguay and Uruguay. :toofunny:

 

Live Nation primarly mistake was to put Lady Gaga at battle to Madonna, with Madonna beeing the favorited one.

But the media and everybody started to talk bs about the ticket sales. Even Madonna doesn't put the full capacity on this venue. And madonna tickets are discouted too. Live Nation was not promoting at all and the dates were released to near the date of concert. The show in Porto Alegre was announced 2 months before i guess? Was a huge mess. (sorry for my english)

Yes  :millie:  Not everybody here has money to buy a ticket concert like this. People have to plan these things. Certainly Live Nation know that. Was a shoot in the dark.

The discounts were real, sadly. And they came from the official sellers. Brazil and Argentina had tickets 50% discounted and Chile had a 2x1 promo weeks before the concert (the major concert markets of the region). You should have seen my face when I bought a normal priced ticket at presale and then I saw a Tv commercial later, announcing the 2x1 thing ahah.

The economy index that you give is true, but as I am from Latin America, I have to say that it isnt a relevant factor. Latin America has always had the most expensive tickets prices after some Asian countries. From rock bands, to pop acts, to festivals. People pay a lot, and shows still sell. The problem was that there wasn't enough demand, and both Gaga and Madonna suffered from it. Both sold their presales quickly, and failed to keep the demand and ended up filling the places with discounts and promotion (both). So the situation for a pop concert was bad, it was even worse when they split the audience in two.

As for the current topic, Greece, I believe it will sell more the final weeks, but not that much more. Ticket sales have always two peaks: the day they go on sale, and the day of the concert. And those two peaks cant be thaaat different, even more now that die-hard fans already bought a ticket. But we'll see, there is a loong time ahead to be optimistic :)

The Greek numbers are more than fine. 17,000 tickets is a big number considering that the show in 4 months and people buy tickets here the last weeks. Don't forget that there is a strong crisis in Greece, people are not gonna buy ticked from now for September.

Funny, because some people on this forum from Greece claim that the ARTPOP era was huge in Greece :confused:

But i'm sure that people will buy tickets for Greece. Guys the show is in september, 4 months to sell the tickets. and as already spoken, many tickets are bought on the eve of the show. Don't worry.

Its the first time when she comes to Greece. That may be the advantage that will make the difference, but it wont be enough to sell double than she sold until now. Lets see what she will do until then, because she must do some things to sell the tickets in San Antonio and the last NA dates.

40,000+ for Greece is more than amazing and she will pull those numbers. The commercials haven't aired even before big shows at all. Most of them air in irrelevant hours and smaller channels. The Tour will sell much more as we approach to the date anyway because of the crisis. People can't afford to buy tickets now. I expect the Tour to sell around 30k till middle August and 40-50K till the show. Edited by VforVendetta
