Generally, album sales:single sales for most artists are 1:5, but since it's the christmas season and since Gaga has been more of an albums seller, I'll say 1:3,5. That means that Gaga, excluding first-week sales of 600k, would need to sell about 7M singles. Roar sold like 7M WW. I don't get your point. yeah and It's not only about sales ... Roar was a smash hit, because It just was a smash hit. WB had even more Impact than Roar this year although selling less... Applause is less of a hit than TEOG and Alejandro WW This the first time Gaga is not having a huge song and the first time she didn't have her moment ... If she didn't released along with Katy, she would've probably had her moment and therefore a lot of positive PRESS... the biggest mistake of the ERA, I can confidently say, is releasing Applause the same week as Roar and not only that but as a whole Katy Perry releasing close to Gaga... I don't think we should worry that much about Irrelevant stuff like her career as a whole for now ... She just needs to write 1 smash and everything will be on track again .. That's the only cure to my "mini-meltdown." I've thought for weeks that today would be the absolute latest day it would be released, but it looks like I was wrong. I really don't see Xtina or the video "saving" this song. At this point, all I care about is just having a video to go along with the song so we have something else to focus on. Did AMA's then release video. continued longeviy with the voice and Rick ross remix and furthermore with Xtina but rather this era has been long and slow with little progress each day. Remember how this lady who gave us all this information yesterday said that public is going to forgive an artist everything/forget all the negativity when this artist comes out with an absolute smash hit. People who are awarded with applause would include those who play any and all sports, cheer, dance, participate in the school or local band or orchestras, do theatre, do martial arts, play instruments, sing in groups and choruses or solo work of any type, individual or group academic competitions... You are right, but they all have different tastes in music, too. Applause is a bit specific. IMO only it doesn't have across the board appeal like, say, 'We Are The Champions', which is a good example of what you speak of. Additionally, it's only the pre-chorus hooks and and maybe the choruses themselves that work across the board. The verses are too specific and not something that most people would be into.
