Nikko 2
My YouTube downloader seems to not be working for some reason, but thanks for the 720p anyway.

Haus 152
YouTube changed their streaming network to DASH (that's why videos don't fully buffer if you pause them) and now they only allow downloading up to 720p. There's one program I'm aware of that still downloads 1080p but I'm not sure about the quality of it.

Nemo 4,230
... and now they only allow downloading up to 720p.I thought they were never allowing downloading to begin with -- it's pretty obfuscated. The downloaders are all reverse-engineered, aren't they?
Haus 152
I thought they were never allowing downloading to begin with -- it's pretty obfuscated. The downloaders are all reverse-engineered, aren't they? Well no YouTube didn't allow it but it's always been fairly simple to download videos since it used to buffer the entire thing as one video. With the new DASH format, it loads in chunks with separate video streams. The YouTube downloading programs/websites use the stream from the HTML5 player which doesn't use DASH, and YouTube no longer supports 1080p for the HTML5 player, which is why most programs can't download in 1080p anymore. You can read about it here http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2013/10/youtube-drops-support-for-1080p-streams.html I'm not sure how a select few programs are able to download 1080p videos right now.
