ARTPOP ACT II - Lyrics and Discussion Topic

Maybe the delay of DWUW and Cheeck to Cheeck is because she's working on the album. Altho people complaining about ACT I not getting enough highlight, she might do something like THE FAME MONSTER, where she just adds an EP to ARTPOP.

The reality of the situation is that ACT I probably isn't going to live beyond 3 singles, and they're going to want (and need) more support to ensure the tour is successful. Especially internationally, where she has struggled.

 

The logical thing to do is to get new material out that will give her some hits and sell the tour. It's not really a creative whim that Gaga can/will back out of - I imagine both she and her label know it's the smart next move for damage control. Considering she'll be touring ACT I, it'll be less messy for it to be called ACT II and can be marketed within the same 'era'. She already said she was planning on doing that, which makes it seem less obviously 'damage control', and they can ensure that ACT II's sales are combined with ACT I's to give the era stronger numbers.

 

From a fan point of view, I think it makes sense to give one more "typically Gaga" album (quickly) before taking a break and reinventing her brand. I'm personally hoping for a raw, reflective, non-electronic album to follow up the ARTPOP era...but for ACT II I'd like disco/R&B/pop. More DWUW and SD, with some Second Time Around, Nothing On (But The Radio), No Way, Reloaded, Out of Control style tracks...combined with 00s Kylie disco/pop. Simple, consistent, stylish blonde look and working with experienced creatives who can help guide/support what will be a cohesive and impactful era.

 

If I were her, I'd plan my 2014 like this:

 

- Get DWUW ft. X out for NY. Get the video out ASAP (ensuring it's edgy, but not damagingly controversial considering R Kelly's scandal right now - it's not worth getting dragged down with that). 

- Send Sexxx Dreams and Gypsy to audience testing to see which they respond to best ASAP.

- Perform 3rd single on Grammys/Brits.

- If SD is 3rd single, use Gypsy as an unofficial 4th single with a video made from BTWB tour clips etc. to promote the Terry documentary which should have VERY limited cinematic release, but be put on YouTube or made an HBO/Netflix exclusive.

- Use Donatella in a Versace promo video, and Fashion! in an H&M promo video.

- Tour NA, leave WW until later in the year after ACT II is released. Maybe even 2015.

- Feature on a major collab this summer.

- Debut ACT II's lead single around the 2014 VMAs. Album released shortly afterwards. 

- Cheek to Cheek released November to capitalise on the holiday sales. Co-promote the two albums.

- Record CTC concert special with Tony to air over the holidays. Possibly do a limited concert tour at some point.

 

Come 2015, she should use the space visit to her advantage with the new material. A big single-worthy ballad might be best. Once the ArtRAVE wraps up - take a decent break to rest and evolve.

Gaga tends to add stuff in her tracklists that is either sub-par (Donatella, Highway Unicorn, Money Honey) or just feels way too out of sync with the album (J&D, Dope). 10 songs will ensure a very sharp and cohesive album experience, with all the songs being substantial to the whole body of work.

Also, for as good as her ballads are, let's have an album without a personal ballad on it for a change.

Oh, please. Donatella is one of the best songs on ARTPOP. But I agree with the 10-tracks-only stand-alone album. I'll take quality over quantity any day.
