The Fox wasn't purposefully spreaded around by a fanbase to become "viral". It became viral because it in itself is quirky and unusual, and people decided that it was crazy enough to want to spread themselves. They didn't intend on it becoming viral and raising it up in the charts. The same happened with Gangnam Style and Friday.
