I've had very negative, personal experiences related to weed and my relationships with other people. Friends have dumped me and my boyfriend left me because I don't smoke and don't intend to. Do I judge people who do? No. It's just not my thing. Fans who are weed smokers/ fans of the song have to STOP ostracizing the fans who have moral/political issues with it or don't like its content. Don't talk down to us because we don't smoke like we are a bunch of ignorant kids, don't tell us we are stupid, and most importantly don't tell us we aren't GaGa fans because we don't support a song devoted to weed. It's unfair and I honestly don't think GaGa would approve. It is in reference to the greek mythology/many artistic interpretations of the story of Daphne and Apollo (including the statues on the ARTPOP album cover). Apollo chased Daphne constantly to be his wife. When Daphne found out Apollo was about to catch her, she yelled to her father to change her into something else so that Apollo wouldn't chase her any longer. She was turned into a tree, her hair leaves, her arms branches. As it relates to the song, when you're high (ie: Daphne) and you get paranoid (scared of Apollo chasing you) as many people do get paranoid when they are high, sing along with the song (sit on Gaga's lyre) and "play him like a piano man" aka tell the paranoia to piss off.
