People need to start realizing that Gaga has an amazing vocal prowess that's all her own. But anyway, nothing can even touch me right now because it's been such an epic day. The #1s (and more to come), the critical acclaim, GAGA FOLLOWING ME ON TWITTER, the fandom-wide happiness. :flutter:

Entertainment just posted a new review of the song.  Well "review"..  It's bias and childish.  But just wanted you to know so you can update.

Seriously what the hell is EW's problem? They can't give her a compliment without making it backhanded. Her vocal style clashes with the track?

IKR? You'd think that she's sold millions of records and has 5 grammys would be enough for people to leave that alone..... but whatevs.

I can't believe people keep referring to Christina Aguilera. They admit the song lives somewhere in the 70's to 90's but don't make the obvious connection to Tina Turner's iconic growl.

Aguilera would totally be at home with this. The r'n'b feel of the song helps, as do the lyrics to the undiscerning listener who thinks it's about no-strings-attached s-x like Get Mine, Get Yours. Plus the high-tessitura harmony in thirds at the last chorus is very Christina, as are the singing above a "normal" vocal track and embellishing it with melisma (compare something like Slow Down or On Our Way). It's not that she invented growly vocals but that combined with all the aforementioned things, Gaga's raw voice and decision not to use vibrato, and the mere fact that Christina is more recent and therefore more recognizable to younger people lead to people saying she sounds like Aguilera. Mariah Carey didn't invent the whistle register and wasn't even the first artist to become known for the whistle register (Minnie Riperton is, who iirc is one of Carey's inspirations), but she did make using it fashionable and now every star with a whistle register and breathy vocals is assumed to be a Mimi rip-off (Ariana Grande falls victim to this even though she does have her own style of singing and lacks certain classic Mariah attributes). Aguilera is a handy comparison and, imo, not too far off the mark.

Love some of these reviews. "Gaga has taken a break from singing about esoteric matters and returned to normal human emotions." "This song is, as the kids say, a bop." Who writes these things? :smh:
