I agree that professional help was needed during the BTW era, and when she used a professional director, it turned into a mess (TEOG's original music video). However, that's what I like about Gaga's music videos, that they never rely on music video clichés and they actually have substance. Not many professional directors can achieve that. crisTEAne 21,059 Posted October 3, 2013 Share Posted October 3, 2013 (edited) And thankfully everything you said is your opinion which within the realms of free speech I can say is utter rubbish for the most part Inez and Vinoodh are professionals. these! the applause music video is NOT MESSY at all. shes getting rid of her previous personas and starts being gaga without the essential factors that made her gaga – basically, shes gaga without AND (at the same time) with all the previous gagas, if that makes sense to you. anyway, the video is an iconography and every single frame captures a timeless moment that could be perceived (and seen) as a beautiful photograph. the CONCEPT should be (and IS, actually) CLEAR to the most dedicated monsters, but being a die-hard fan isnt a necessity since the theatrical and expressionist components (if you think its simply dark, you know nothing about expressionism) create a beyond compelling, intriguing, and artistic milieu/atmosphere that is able to stand on its own, in other words: to please the gp. imo, it is her best work to date in terms of PROFESSIONALISM and ARTISTIC QUALITY. You can tell that she doesn't get any "no"s from the HAUS, even though they all put on the semblance of being equal. None of them would dare cross her. She needs to get off her artistic high horse some times, especially with videos, and get a real director. Someone she isn't friends with, that way they wont feel bad to tell her no. I'm sure most of the people there are professionals in what they do. I feel like it's sometimes hard for her to put all of her ideas together to form a smooth music video or performance. Does that make sense? For example, Katy Perry lacks the imagination of GaGa, but this actually works for her because her content is simple and basic. It's planned out correctly. GaGa sometimes does need professional help, whether that means hiring accomplished directors for her music videos and performances, just like other great artists have (Madonna, Michael Jackson -> all used great directors for their work), or asking for advice with her image in general. I know many of you will say she's just expressing herself, but in order to be extremely successful in this business you have to create clear and consistent work. Why not just say Gaga needs to work on making her ideas more clear and cohesive? Is she not smart enough to learn from experience? Alejandro video was the worst miss-mash, despite the "professional director." A pro could end up adding more chaotic ideas to the mess. Or we could get a confused mess of Gaga's ideas and his ideas. I'm not saying that people here have a bad or wrong ideas, but give this woman and everything she has done some credit. I feel like the criticism she is getting from us at the moment is too much, especially now when we are about to enter her new era and see how she has evolved and changed as an artist and also as a person.
