Foivos 64
Stop overestimating Gaga's power with 'the GP' and all. It's not happening, Gaga and Interscope need to work to make something smash. We overestimated Gaga's power with Applause and thought it'd sell at least 350-500k first week and look what happened. Also stop the obsession with 'The GP'. If they like a song, they illegally download it and some of them buy it. Yes, Applause was way more anticipated than Venus. The lead single of ARTPOP was one of the most anticipated singles of 2013. When I said GP is here for her again, I meant they KNOW Gaga still exists. Only monsters anticipated for Applause because other people did not know anything about her return. With a good promo more and more people can get to know about second single

With a good promo more and more people can get to know about second single But I'm still not expecting any single to go to #1 this era, she doesn't have to, either. But you need great streaming and great sales and great airplay for a #1 or amazingly slaying legendarily great in two of these.

The lead single of ARTPOP was one of the most anticipated singles of 2013. MTN flopped and destoroyed all monumentum Gaga got with TFM. Then Gaga went to blackout, and released song week earleier, causeing lower debut thatn we expected. She now started creating buzz and monumentum again, and she can debut higher than applause. This is kind of JD and PF situation

Americano 31,061
Its like impossible to go #1 first week these days. Lets not be ridiculous. I thought Gaga fans would learn from Applause, but I guess not lol

This is kind of JD and PF situation It's not like Gaga had to start all over like she did with Just Dance though. And Poker Face started from the bottom too. And next to that, momentum isn't that important. You can destroy momentum like TeoG did with Judas but everybody still knows Marry the Night, outside of radio stations and the stanworld people don't really care where a song peaked. If they know a song they know it and if they don't they don't. I do agree a bit with building up momentum though, radio will probably pick up the next single faster although Gaga's hype is at a minimum now outside of the US it seems

Applause did great in Spain/Sweden/Germany/Brazil/Canada/Japan.. Just because it didn't do good in a few countries doesn't mean it killed her entire WW standing. What kinda messy assumption
Rocky 21
It's extremely hard for Gaga, look at Katy, she only managed to get #1 for one week with monstrous sales, streaming and airplay. Actually it was #1 for two weeks. In its first two weeks at #2 it was blocked by "Blurred Lines" thanks to the record high AI, very good sales and streaming. "Blurred Lines" is one of the biggest hits EVER and the fact that it reached its peak on the week Katy and Gaga released and it took just two weeks for "Roar" to dethrone it is amazing. It had two weeks to shine, then "Wrecking Ball" came in with its record high music video streams, 400k+ sales and stole 2 weeks from "Roar". Then after it started to fall, it was sure that Katy will be back at #1, but "Royals" was able to beat it by just 1%. In conclusion, "Roar" could have been #1 for 7 freaking weeks, and #2 for much longer (we don't know yet...). It's like "California Gurls" - a huge hit, the biggest seller of the year but got robbed from many more weeks... or "Poker Face". That's a great example as well. Foivos 64
Born This Way album and song did that amazing in first week because of monumentum Yes... And the hype of monsters for Venus may not be as big as for Applause but thet anyway buy Venus. On the other hand, generally the hype for Venus will be bigget because of more promotion (hopefully) and re-introduction of Gaga to GP.
