Sorry - I've no idea - I only look at the itunes singles chart, not the album one where the ARTPOP pre-orders appear. However the method would be to calibrate the position of ARTPOP versus the positions of albums that are already released and so have known sales. Then use the estimation that 40% of a released album sales are digital. So if ARTPOP was at #10 on pre-orders and the #9 and #11 albums sold that week an average of 10K, then you would assume those released albums sold 4K digitally that week and so ARTPOP sold 4K that week.
