Gaga: "Judge me on ARTPOP, not success of Applause"

Obvi this is the best stuff, because she's shopping around to see what the next single is going to be. She doesn't want to make the same mistake as Judas, and have to rush-release a 3rd single like she did with TEOG. It's all marketing and business. Why would she not want one of the best songs on the album to be the 2nd single. Seriously, think about it, people.

Her saying this about Applause and ARTPOP completely reminded me of what Beyonce said in her documentary, the queens know how it is.

"People don’t make albums anymore. They just try to sell a bunch of quick singles.

Artists put out an album, then they put out a new one. People don’t even listen to a

                            body of work anymore."

This is so true... :trootea:

I've said this once and I'll say it again

Chart Success is by no means a clear-cut, accurate indication of what is a "good" song or a "bad" song

Especially since everyone in the world has different tastes

Yes it would be nice to see GaGa at the Tip Top of each Chart, but in the end, for all of us (artist and fans) to be happy we just need to forget about numbers and stats and just enjoy the music! It's more fun that way :)

I can't at people shading Applause and saying it was a bad single choice and a flop. The song is catchy as hell. Lyrically, it's different from anything else out there: at first, I was like :wtf: when I heard the verses, now I can't stop repeating them. It was an excellent choice for a come back single.

Some fans jsut don't seem to understand that Gaga suffered a huge backlash, not only from the GP, but also from previous fans who deserted her after the relative lackluster success of BTW. She is rebuilding her relevance, although by reinventing herself and not repeating herself, and applause is a great choice because she's not only talking to her fans, but also to the GP. She's crafting an image of herself that will make people find her attractive, love her again. The first single is not supposed to be a smash, but a growing hit that will make people be interested in her again. If she opened with huge sales, she would have gone downward afterwards, just like with BTW. Gaga is a genius of a business woman. She played new songs from ARTPOP more than 2 months before its release. Why? cause she wanted to make sure that people (fans and GP) get a taste of the album (and what an album it seems so far, 1 word: SLAYAGE). The souns is fresh, yet within reach of all audiences. The genres are many: of pop, disco, hip-hop and EDM and while I'm sure there are other great tracks, I have the imprression that the 7 she played are the ones that are more instantly likable, whereas the others might be more experimental, with one song probably being kept a secret either because it will smash or because of a highly visible collaboration.

Very well said!

Lose control. Let go and fall. Do you get the satisfaction?

I really do hope she kept the best of the songs, since I didn't get a promising vibe from the selection we've been privy to thus far.

First, Applause is doing fine on the charts. This WAS a good comeback single. It is a great pop song that is easy to listen to and digest, but still interesting. People needed to be eased into Gaga again. She needed just a nice return song. Now people are ready for the art they know she has in store. It was a great idea to preview album songs at the concert so now people know why Applause was chose and also what's in store.

Applause being popular but not shoved down the public's throats will cause longevity for the album since people are genuinly interested and know Gaga can do more.

Applause is a song genuinly enjoyed by it's listeners at the number four spot in the country, while BTW was just overhyped track that not many really appreciated at number. Rather have Applause, it's genuine.

“The album has 15 songs so we’re not giving away too much and I definitely saved a lot of the best stuff.â€

No, there are lots of great not successful songs (I am a Lana Del Rey fan btw )

What I am saying is, if a song becomes successful, it has a reason. And the reason is, the song is good. People are buying it, it brings in the money and people WANT it. Now, this couldn't happen if the song wasn't great. Y'all are shading Blurred Lines but it's better than the majority of the stuff we got from Gaga over the years.

Please. get out of here :coffee:

A misogynistic song about rape, and enforcing gender roles is BETTER than Gaga's stuff? GET OUT.

I'm waiting for the full album to come out so it shuts the media up, I'm so tired of reading their comments about how she's "tired" and "can't live up to her own hype."
