:awkney: ? it doesn't mean i have to like it though.... maybe if it was just a piano ballad it would have stood out for me

My hopes are on limbo for this one. I really hate saying that. Aura is still my favorite (because it has such an offensive hard hitting beat), and all the others are too light and flowery to me. And some of the vocals/beats have a bit of "recycled" sound to them (ARTPOP = vocals like Blondie, Sex Dreams = vocals like Madonna). God I absolutely hate writing this....

I HOPE they are better on the studio final versions

Do not start with the Madonna thing. :crossed:

Ok heres the deal.

The music is really amazing pop music songs.

However, none of them (at least to me) are huge elaborate chart topping hits like bad romance.

Im very impressed by the music, but i feel like none have the huge substance that her and Redone had

I was also disappointed. But I couldn't make out any of the words, so that definitely has something to do with it. I loved the rock vibe though. And I think she was just letting herself be vulnerable, which is what made you uncomfortable.

Ok let me explain for you -

Sometimes by Britney Spears and Sometimes by Lady Gaga are two completely different songs.

i think she's just now making music for fans. and fans will support her, but i don't know if she'll make the same hit machine like The Fame or The Fame Monster. Most of the songs were great for me but i don't know if they'll do nice for radio, i loved applause but i think its getting a temporary push from  the promo and fans. she will be fine anyway.

Kind of, but not in a bad way, if that makes sense.

I suppose I mean, I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't sound the way I thought it was going to sound, and that it sounds so distant from Gaga's previous work, but I also LOVE it for the exact same reasons. The songs are really different and great, though.

ARTPOP is def kinda pretentious sounding, but it's not bad. Sex Dreams and MANiCURE is where its at. Swine im on the fence about. I really wish it had a bigger chorus...and the verses sound VERY Madonna to me. But perhaps it will grow on me.

i think its hard to judge songs based on how they sound live. when gaga first played y&I on tour, i didnt like it, but when i heard the album version, got it into it more and more. now its one of my favorite songs from BTW.

I'm not trying to be negative here, and I really am happy for those who are in love with the new music and the direction she's taking. But speaking as a loving fan, and not as a heartless critic, I'm just not digging the new music.

Like I said, I'm not trying to be negative, but I'm just curious to hear thoughts from anyone else who isn't ecstatic about the new music, because most of what I've read so far has been praise. I'm curious to know what people on the other side think.

Really the only song I liked was Swine (and Aura, but we already had heard that). I found most of the other songs to be just laughably bad. I wouldn't want to listen to any of those songs more than a few times. I found the lyrics, in particular, to be just awful. Easily the worst that she has ever put out.

It seemed like not only was the music different, but Gaga was as well. She seems so hurt, like she can barely keep herself together. I was really turned off during most of the performance because I felt like I was watching a washed-up version of Gaga perform, rather than the amazing performer I fell in love with. Did anyone else feel that way? She just seems so plagued by demons.

I don't even want to lure myself into thinking that the studio versions will be better, because I already made the mistake of getting excited for the lead single, the VMA performance, and for these new songs, all of which I've found to be very disappointing, particularly after waiting so patiently for so long and being told over and over that this would blow all of her previous work out of the water somehow. Going into the rest of the era, I think having no expectations will be best, for me, anyway.

I understand where your coming from. Usually when I first hear Gaga songs i hate them. When i bought BTW o was dissapointed but it grew on me. So it may grow on you.
