I'm starting to wonder if she'll get dropped soon. If even a team of songwriters penning half her album can't save it, what can? And to think, this is weeks where there's been no competition with big artists releasing albums. And this was with a top ten hit preceding it. Cher Lloyd debuted at #21 and dropped out the top 100 the following week. Even with her highly publicised comeback, a #1 and 2 top tens preceding Sheezus, Lily Allen debuted with just over 30,000 and is nearly off the charts completely. As I understand it, her album has barely sold 100k. Really puts Gaga's standing with the UK audience into perspective, right? Even with no #1's, limited promo and absent music videos, she still opens with nearly 70,000 and has achieved gold status which ain't half bad considering how dismal the UK market is for female artists right now, no matter how successful their singles are. What I'm surprised to see this time is how badly Katy's singles are performing. With her last era, 7/8 of her singles went top 10. Now, 3/5 of her singles haven't even reached top 20. What's interesting is that her single releases seem to be encouraging people to buy the album instead, as the album always rises when she's got a new single out, but the singles consistently underperform. Seeing as how she got her UK dates out of the way first and clearly isn't coming back, it means the UK public got exhausted of her pretty quickly and once the album sales those dates generated was over, we seemed to have washed our hands of her. And for the general public who don't buy her work, they probably think she hasn't done anything since Dark Horse. Hell, they might think she hasn't done anything since Roar, and that was a year ago. I doubt anyone remembers Unconditionally, even with her dismal XF performance.
