16,000 copies is not really that few for Celine. That equates to over 53,000 copies in the USA.

I don't know if Celine is scheduled for any more promo during this week, but she needs to be outselling Gaga at least by 4,000 copies each day till the end of the chart week in order to just catch-up, so we can stay positive about the debut.

I guess, but seeing as she's in the top 10 with her new single, it's like anything could happen. Like I said, back in 2007, she was a guest mentor on XF and performed Taking Chances just before her album release, which gave her a double whammy of promo. Despite this, the single only peaked at #40 and the album at #5 and it reached platinum eventually (300,000 - 599,000 copies). With that in mind, I didn't think she'd be a threat in the slightest but for some reason, the tide is turning in her favour this time, which no one could have predicted. But Gaga's been leading for the last 2 days, so if she can keep this up through Wednesday, she should just make it. But if there's one thing that's making me confident it's that Gaga has already outsold Miley's debut week with her first day of sales alone. Miley barely shifted 4,000 on her first day. Gaga, by having a bigger debut week than someone with two UK #1's, will prove that it takes more than hit singles to sell an album. And it'll also give her the fastest selling female album in the UK this year. The last remaining female who could beat her this year is Britney and that won't happen.

what does it mean that its on lock???

That Gaga's got a #1 in the bag, basically. But I still wouldn't be that confident just yet.

I Feel so D:  I Dont Know, Hold on Gaga And ARTPOP When does the counting of sales end to this weeks chart?

Oh guys please, Celine Dion is NOT going to take Gaga's #1 :smh: The thought is hilarious. Eminem is probably a bigger threat than she is. 16k is not a small difference in 2013 album sales. What on earth makes you think she will sell more steadily than Gaga will this week when she doesn't even have a single on top 40 radio, and DWUW is nearing top 20?

Not to mention her song is about to fall on iTunes after a relatively short stint at #10. Her album will likely see a similar fate.

38k isn't drastic for first day. It's pretty good actually. We all knew it was gonna sell significantly less than Born This Way so can you all stop lol. She's on track to beat PRISM anyway and most of you were moaning that Katy is now the bigger star here etc etc.

i thought 38k is great lol

maybe my expectations diminished, but its also not 2009 anymore

If it was any other big artist releasing this year (except maybe Eminem), people would be saying that's a great number. And honestly it is a good number. It's about the equivalent of her doing 126k in one day in US.

I think we look at US numbers so much that UK sales seems tiny by comparison because we forget about the population difference. If we convert it, we realise how good it actually is.

I guess, it's just in the realm of pop music, you can never be too sure. But I'm sure she will steadily decrease as the week progresses and Gaga will remain stable. Gaga's also got the O2 ad on her side and DWUW is B-listed. But that in a way makes it all the more imperative that she gets this #1. If she can't make it despite all her previous albums getting to the top plus an O2 ad, XF promotion, Graham Norton promotion and her new single B-listed on Radio 1, it's going to be a big embarassment. I notice you said that DWUW is nearing top 20 - why not top ten - its been there since Saturday and it can chart this week, so why is it not in the top 10?

So when do they stop counting sales? Sunday morning afternoon?

Midnight on Saturday because the charts are released at 7pm on Sunday. Sales after the cut-off point will count for the following week. It still works out to a full week of sales. So, Gaga still has to hold on for just under 4 days and 4 hours as of this post.
