TSUNAMI 20,442
So, I love to read reviews so I'll share some. You may share it also and I'll just update the OP OLDER REVIEWS http://www.entertainmentwise.com/news/124004/Lady-Gaga-Debuts-Raunchy-Music-Video-For-New-Single-Applause-WATCH After weeks of teasing, Gaga finally unveiled the 'Applause' visuals on Good Morning America today, and it will no doubt cause a stir with the singer writhing around for what is no doubt her s-xiest video yet.- EntertainmentVise Copy from Rolling Stones http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/lady-gaga-writhes-in-new-applause-clip-20130819 Lady Gaga unleashed her new video for "Applause" today, and in typical Gaga fashion, it's a spectacle of flashing lights, vivid colors and intricate choreography. The popstar's wardrobe in the clip ranges from Bergman-esque hooded figures, to a nearly naked Gaga dancing in a bra shaped like hands shielding her breasts, to a nod to Botticelli in strategically placed seashells and little else. The singer emerges from a giant top hat, using bold eye shadow, free falling confetti and backup dancers writhing madly to enhance the drama of the video off her upcoming ARTPOP album. Copy from Idolator.com http://idolator.com/7478548/lady-gaga-applause-video-review-revue :: Consequence of Sound takes a playful jab at the singer’s current chart position, saying “Gaga’s head appears on a black swan and she boogies down in a clam bikini. If this doesn’t bump up her sales, I no longer believe in art.†:: Our friends at SPIN quipped, “‘Some of us just like to read,’ she sings, and hey, that includes us. But it’s easier to clap for something that moves or touches you, rather than serves as an advertisement for Gaga as incomprehensible high-end brand.†:: MTV joked that the clip “most certainly wasn’t your standard breakfast-hour fare,†continuing “It is obtuse, odd, and most certainly does not go well with oatmeal.†:: Entertainment Weekly notes that, “In typical Gaga fashion, it’s all over the place,†and seemed impressed by the fact that she “crams an awful lot into three minutes.†:: Vulture said “‘Applause’ is of course as catchy as can be, and the video does seem like the perfect visual companion to a mainstream dance-pop song about the relationship between art, artist, and audience.†:: The Independent notes “the high energy accompaniment to her new track is a hotchpotch of imagery that seems to highlight the pop princess’ ever changing appearance.†:: Lastly, Entertainmentwise believes Lady Gaga “will no doubt cause a stir with the singer writhing around for what is no doubt her s-xiest video yet. Copy from Slant Magazine http://www.slantmagazine.com/house/2013/19/video-review-lady-gaga-applause The video for "Applause," then, serves as a sort of reset button (Gaga herself even tweeted as much following an uncomfortably public tiff with Perez Hilton yesterday.) Directed by Dutch fashion photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the so-called "film" finds the singer taking on various guises, from court jester to Little Edie to black swan to dead Marilyn in a birdcageâ€â€icons employed, presumably, to represent the bondage and destruction of fame, a running theme in Gaga's work. And while that makes for a relevant social critique, there's a disconnect between the images and the stated purpose of the song and video as a celebration of her symbiotic relationship with her fans. "Applause" isn't about attention, she told Good Morning America, but emblematic of the happiness she brings her "little monsters." The hyper-edited video also features plenty of fodder for Illuminati-obsessed conspiracy theorists, including Gaga as a centaur(ess) rising out of the Mad Hatter's top hat. But the most evocative image is of a dark-haired Gaga writhing on a mattress in nothing but black lace underwear and leather boots. Suggesting a girl in her bedroom performing for an imaginary arena of fans, it's the closest the video gets to capturing the supposed essence of "Applause." Copy from Independent http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/first-look-lady-gagas-applause-video-8774723.html Showing Gaga in a number of guises (as a Beatnik performance artist, her face smeared with clown make-up, sporting David Bowie-esque androgyny while wearing a bra made of black, leather gloves and as various winged creatures), the high energy accompaniment to her new track is a hotchpotch of imagery that seems to highlight the pop princess' ever changing appearance. Billboard Music Video Review http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop-shop/5657751/lady-gaga-releases-applause-video-watch The "Applause" video is a collection of arty postures and scenarios showing Gaga in a birdcage, with a tail, catching knives in a cauldron, wearing a bone blouse and, in a fashion highlight, dancing in only a black-glove bra that is reminiscent of a famous Janet Jackson magazine cover. The clip is draped in mostly black and white, with splashes of vivid color, at several points showing the singer with makeup streaming down her face. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/10-weirdest-influences-in-lady-gagas-applause-video-20130819 LA TIMES: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/posts/la-et-ms-lady-gaga-video-applause-20130819,0,6689038.story It's beautiful, in fact, obviously the product of the best imagists, stylists, lighting designers and makeup artists money can buy. You wouldn't expect anything less than maximum impact and maximum obviousness from Lady Gaga. Subtlety is the enemy throughout "Applause" -- and her career -- and directors Inez & Vinoodh never stray from the two-word message. Which is, if you haven't already guessed it: "Lady Gaga." It seems that magazines really do need STAN WARS Just for laughs- this article is irrelevant. http://www.examiner.com/review/lady-gaga-tries-to-destroy-madonna-s-legacy-applause-video First of all, let's get one thing straight: the video is certainly more interesting than the boring and noisy song. Lady Gaga is copying Madonna again, but instead of reminding us what a legend Madonna is, the video aims to remind people of Madonna's pretentiousness. There is one part of the video where two hands clasp Gaga's breasts as she moves her fingers towards her eyes. This looks like something straight out of Madonna's horrible "Human Nature" video. Unlike Gaga, Madonna at least looked good in her video. VANITY FAIR (Link provided by user HMLover ) http://www.vanityfair.com/online/oscars/2013/08/lady-gaga-smile-applause-video But beyond the dance, the video features something else that gives me hope about this new album: a smile. You can see hints of it starting 50 seconds in. It’s not a full grin, but it’s a hint thatâ€â€gaspâ€â€Lady Gaga is actually having fun. NEWEST UPDATE: DAILY MAIL http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2397156/Lady-Gaga-Applause-video-Singer-writhes-revealing-clamshell-bikini-new-video.html The entire display seems to be a not too subtle allusion to the performative personas she dons as a pop star, communicating how it is an art that leaves her overexposed and caged at the same time - with a multitude of identities populating the media with each new song/album she unveils.
