It's quite possible he turned it down. I wanted to say the exact thing. 2 girls performed 2 years in a row o it was logical that a guy will perform. And I know that she isn't competition outside of the debut week. It's fine with me, though. Most fans and myself just pray for a successful single and some longevity, not some colossal slayage.
