I don't think Ray of Light had a #1 hit? but it still had memorable singles with Frozen and the title track. Plus, it's widely considered one of her best albums by critics, I believe. Even though Applause probably won't peak at #1, it seems like a song people will remember from an album with the potential to be a major success commercially and critically. Look at Miley Cyrus right now, WCS is no where near being a huge radio hit (judging by her spins + AI) yet it is a massive song of the summer, the video is viral and she gets the headlines. There is so many competition coming this fall that we shouldn't check the number, but the public reception of the song/album. Because the difference between a #1 and a #4 will be exceptionally small (for example, Wake Me Up vs Applause, both at big hits climbing slowly on the chart at the same speed, so no needs to worry if one is ahead of the other because, in general, they are the same size hit).
