#1 is nowhere close to being possbile.... with the rate it's going.....

This "rate" will obviously change once the radio deal and promotional appearances kick in.

People forget that she's ALWAYS had to work for her singles to be successful, with the exception of Born This Way as the hype for that was astronomical.

Get a grip everyone. The song wasn't even suppose to be out yet.

Katy's coming off 7 #1 singles.

Gaga's coming off a divisive era and  a Top 40 single.

This is basically Katy's equivalent of Born This Way's (the song) release. She won't have to move a finger to sell just like Gaga didn't. Gaga knew this single would have to be promoted to hell and back in order to do "well." It's unfortunate the leak happened and she rush-released it as the only promo they could move forward were the radio interviews. But next week is when it really starts. GMA will be huge; she has never released a video like that. I expect more talk show appearances for the coming two weeks before she headlines the iTunes festival.

I think a Top 3 or Top 2, maybe, maybe, maybe a #1 is possible.

Sorry I'm super late, but your comparison of where Katy is now to where Gaga was when BTW came out is spot-on and I wanted to give you cred haha

 someone that knows how much reputation matters in pop music right here.

I'm in Los Angeles and I've heard it every single day on the radio since it came out and I only listen to the radio when driving. They've been playing it on 102.7 KIIS, 104.3 MyFm, and 97.1 AMP.

Also, just for anyone who doesn't know, there's a site where you can track US airplay of songs on every radio format. It's allaccess.com. You have to make a free account and then you can just log in and go to formats and then select the format and then "mediabase" to see how the song is doing (there are other ways to track it, too.)

The big three formats for Gaga (and pop in general) are Top40/M (mainstream) Top40/R (rhythmic) and Hot/Mod/Ac (Adult Contemporary). Top40/M is the big one in terms of numbers.

So, looking at that right now I can see the following:

lhlaVHR.jpg

Roar got the most new spins this week with 6064 and Applause got the second most new spins with 2739.

Also:

Roar made the biggest jump in radio play position this week from 0 to 15, and Gaga made the second biggest jump from 0 to 28. Both of those are HUGE. Notice how most other songs only move a couple of spots at a time.

Anyway, just wanted to share that. It's a lot more reliable than us just guessing if it's being played based on what people say.

Edit: Also, Roar and Applause both made HUGE jumps on Adult Contemporary which tends to move a lot slower. For example, You and I and Edge of Glory were still gradually moving up on the AC charts long after they had peaked and fallen on Top 40.

I know everything has been said to death at this point, but I don't even care about the charts until after next week.  I feel like the only promo things that they did this week were the radio interviews and the lyric vid, but next week is when their plan truly kicks in.

Gaga's team is really good at what they do and seem to be fine-tuning their strategies after the BTW era, so I have faith in Troy, Vince and the Interscope folk.

The MV alone gives her views and will bump her up the charts at least a little, and once people hear the song more, it should catch on.
