Don't forget that when BTW was released it didn't leak, had HUGE hype, was released on time, had huge radio deals ( had 100 AI in a week) and a grammys performance. I think it's better this way because Applause still has little AI and if it gets played slowly, it will peak much later unlike BTW. Plus the song is a real grower, gets catchier every time.
