there's a sense of sadness about the single cover, yet the song is happy and fun. loving the contrast

I think everything about the single is probably gonna be melancholy/a mix of happy and sadness, sort of like Alejandro

Oh ok. I understand. But the futuristic promotional images we have gotten so far are likely to be used in the art that accompanies the album. So, don't worry we will see more of that shoot.

The imagery from this era is so different from any of the prior eras. I just find myself staring at them, digesting them, and then going back to do the same thing a bit later. The pics are so engaging.

I would say so. It's definitely the most artistic image she has released in her career so far. When I look at it I see a piece of art worthy of hanging in a museum. Not a picture that would normally be plastered on billboards, posters and clothing. I love it for that reason.
