Haunts 7
Hey guys, I'm curious to hear what you think this means:"ARTPOP musically mirrors Gaga's creative process as she passes through the mediums of each artist she collaborates with, scoring a blueprint of her journey. The result, a "rage" of electronic passion and fury, defining each artistic process from beggining to end, ARTPOP could mean anything." For me, it was this: (that I posted a while back and enhanced quickly). A thought just occured to me: is "we could, we could belong together" line possibly about Art and Pop being combined into one? YES! This is exactly what I believe the record will be about lyrically. The title track will probably be about the duality of Art and Pop. I was reading an interview with Marina Abramovic this morning where she talked about money and fame and that it shouldn't be the motivation for making art. But fame and money are a motivation in Pop music. In fact, it is driven by fame and money, not necessarily from the artist himself but the label thrive on an artist's marketability. "I try to sell myself but I'm really laughing because I just love the music, not the bling." "I'd rather be poor and happy than rich and alone." I think there will also be ambiguity with the lyrics, a double meaning. Just like when you casually listen to The Fame Monster, it's free, mindless pop but it's actually about fears and literal monsters. (Best exemplified with Speechless, which could be just a love song.) "We could, we could belong together" can be about love and also the duality of Pop and Art, her ARTPOP could literally mean anything. "If love is a sin, live a lie. You and me until I die." "I won't die, but I can't live without you". It sounds corny as f*ck, but if it's about the necessity of art in one's life, then it's brilliant. "We could be caught, we're both convicted criminals of thought." "A hybrid can withstand these things. My heart can beat with bricks and strings. My ARTPOP could mean anything" might explore her own duality, the duality of her entier career: how can you be a pop star (especially female) and still be taken seriously as a genuine artist? Is there such a thing as a hybrid of pop and art? Could they, could they belong together? Now that I re-read this, I think these two parts could be from the same song. note how it all rhymes the same way. (The bridge of the 'We could, we could...' song?) I try to sell myself but I'm really laughing Because I just love the music not the bling A hybrid can withstand these things My heart can beat with bricks and strings My ARTPOP could mean anything As for the rest of the music, I wonder if it will be like a commentary on different art fields, or an abstract/metaphoric way of describing the feeling, the concept/limits/goals of a certain art form. "My bones hurt from all the shows but I don't feel the pain cause I'm a pro. I sink in then I'm okay, cause my body belongs to you when I'm on stage." > About performance/showmanship? Dancing? Could it be from The Applause (if that is a song title)? I'm really curious to hear from other people though, cause weirdly enough, I haven't seen the ARTPOP "manifesto" extentively quoted or a--lyzed (and I've been following this thread like a crazy person). I'm really curious to hear from other people though, cause weirdly enough, I haven't seen the ARTPOP "manifesto" extentively quoted or a--lyzed (and I've been following this thread like a crazy person). I've been waiting for you to a--lyze it honestly. you're a legend! But yeah, I think everything you said is spot on in the quote. "ARTPOP musically mirrors Gaga's creative process as she passes through the mediums of each artist she collaborates with, scoring a blueprint of her journey. The result, a "rage" of electronic passion and fury, defining each artistic process from beggining to end, ARTPOP could mean anything." To me this seems to signify that she has been collaborating with these artists throughout her creative process for ARTPOP. These songs could be tailor-made for the performance art/other kind of collaborations she has planned. It's an interesting way to go about making an album and if it's true, I wonder what kind of art is planned for the first single? Will it be a soundtrack for a bombastic performance art piece or not necessarily part of one of her collaborations? I kind of think I'm taking it too literally, but I'm not feeling creative enough to think through the nuances of her ARTPOP manifesto. Okay..maybe I am. Let's break it down. "the app itself is a musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion, and technology with a new interactive worldwide community  “the aurasâ€." I don't understand how nobody else is buzzing about this??? What are the auras?!!? It sounds to me like it's a new name for her fans, or more specifically, the participants in the app who will be contributing to this project with their art. via wikipedia: "an aura is a field of subtle, luminous radiation surrounding a person or object (like the halo or aureola in religious art). The depiction of such an aura often connotes a person of particular power or holiness." Maybe we are something like GaGa's aura. Afterall, she is the "icon" that we are all brought together by. We give her her significance, and as she sometimes says, we give her her creativity and religion as well. "Altering the human experience with social media, we bring ARTculture into POP in a reverse Warholian expedition." This was pretty well describe in the ARTPOP app discussion thread. In fact, all of the manifesto is a--lyzed very well there. But, with my limited knowledge of Warhol, I can say he brought pop culture into art by replicating popular images until they were brought out of context and became meaningless/something else. What if GaGa brings context and art to a meaningless pop culture? One way to do that is to transform pop into an interactive art community. Then you have literally created an art culture around a pop icon. "Exploring Gaga’s existence as a cultural interface, the user will share in the ‘adrenaline of fame’ as they build and share their own projects,..." Here we are seeing "interface" again. Along with her saying she is the "icon" we can really start to imagine how GaGa see's herself in this project. She is the interface through which our collective pop culture is filtered and disseminated to the masses. She is essentially a blank canvas without us, her auras. Which brings me to this interesting line: "On this day HAUS OF GAGA venges with forte to bring the music industry into a new age; an age where art drives pop, and the artist once again is in control of the ‘icon.’" I think this means that we are the artists. We are in control of her. In a more literal sense if she uses the fashion from littlemonsters and all of those other contests pan out, but we always have been. Her entire artistry is about fame. Even Born This Way was a result of her fame and the relationship between us and her. You could say this is also what "where art drives pop" is from. She sees her fans as very artistic, and we will be driving how she makes our art (into) pop. "In turn, the album ARTPOP musically mirrors Gaga’s creative process as she passes through the mediums of each artist she collaborates with, scoring a blueprint of her journey. The result, a “rage†of electronic passion and fury, defining each artistic process from beginning to end, ARTPOP could mean anything." Going with my theme here, Not only are her fans the artists, but actual professional, famous artists will be in control of our icon as she interprets their style into pop. I believe "ARTPOP could mean anything" simply means that it is a broader movement for all types of art and expression. It is about how we interact with icons and how pop culture can be a form of art itself. To conclude, I want to throw in that the ARTPOP promo pic is very telling. Her hair is light brown, her makeup is minimal, and she is wearing a face mask. She is a blank canvas getting prepared for the onslaught of ART that she is about to filter through her own artistry into POP. Basically, I'm excited.
