  1. 1. Should Lana give up Protestant Anabaptist vibes to Ethel Cain and reorient to Catholic-infused pop?

    • Yes
    • No
    • This is why they are fighting- they want to occupy the same niche, but Lana fills the dramatic baroque pop better

As you many of you may know, Western Christiniaty is made up of 2 branches: Catholicism and Protestantism. They offer two different worldviews and ideologies and shape art in different forms: Catholicism is more dramatic, visually rich, intense, symbolic, while Protestantism is more iconoclastic, self-containted and focused on the essentials.

While Lana is not explicity a Christian artist, some fans noticed how her conversion to more Protestant-leaning branches of churches coincided with her embracing fully the stripped back sound around the time NFR was released. Today I relistened to Dragonslayer, an Ultravilolence demo that leaked a while back, and it blew me away. :bradley: It's so powerful and melodic and thematically so Catholic.

Which made me relisten to Born To Die, and Paradise, and Honeymoon and you can notice a Catholic aesthetic in there: sometimes more overtly, as in Paradise, sometimes more subdued, as in Honeymoon, but it's there: they have an intense, dramatic, baroque quality that misses from her newer stuff that skews more to rural Protestant Americana.

I still listen to her newer albums (Chemtrails, Blue Banisters, Ocean Blv) and I grew to love Chemtrail especially, but I miss the grandeour and complex instrumentation of her early career.

Bottom line, Lana needs to give more rosaries, stained glass, dramatic strings, powerful melodic lines , and less of the austere, self-contained stripped back sound. More Salvatore, God Knows I Tried, Body Electric-lite sounds etc. She needs to be dragged to the Vatican and attend mass there and be inspired by the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and less by the wooden shacks w/ with limewash from rural America. Do you agree? :lana:

Spoiler

Inspiration: sadly the post was deleted in the meantime but I thought it was food for thought at the time. :lana:

She'll never bring you down
You're hot, then she'll bring you water
She wears a flower crown
She is the people's daughter
