In the US, it outsold BTW last year, if I'm not mistaking. It also got a lot of boost from holiday seasons. Here's the current sales of the two:

I think the gap is big. Esp. that the album sales have been declining lately.

 

They were about even before Katy did a re-release.

 

It took Katy SIX #1 hits plus 2 other top 3 hits to do that. She's never come close again.

Gaga had 2 strong hits (BTW and EoG) and a lessor one (Yuyi) I give over 50% odds she can improve on that.
