However, this doesn't really happy anymore. A record label will just make an official (and completely legal) radio deal with stations. It's mainly an excuse used by stans when they're pressed that their fave is flopping. There is no evidence to suggest that payola has been used by any major pop stars recently. Yes, it could be 'generic', 'safe', and maybe 'basic' (Gaga Daily's favorites terms) but besides that, it sounds pretty catchy and fresh, no matter what.
