Americano

So here for Selena's era after CAGI, the album cover, and especially Slow Down!

She might be able to break her Disney shackles and become a true pop star in the US if she keeps this up.

Imagine Dragons' Radioactive spends its 14th week atop the Rock airplay chart while still selling within the top 10 of iTunes.

I'm gonna need to run to the store and buy an iTunes card tonight. We Can't Stop is good and Slow Down just sounds incredible. Good week for the Disney girls

I truly hope Ke$ha makes it with this single. I really love her trashy and pointless pop ... guilty pleasure really ... It seems it won't be long until it hits big with the increase in radio / iTunes.

I may be late to the party, but "Same Love" is so touching. But will it be able to perform on the charts / radio with the unconventional / less than radio friendly lyrics?  :gum:

Still some Katy haters, but a lot less bashing her around here. I think some monsters are beginning to miss her :teehee:

How would you guys react if her album outsold ARTPOP by year-end?

That depends.  Katys album debuted horribly last time around.  So bad, in fact, that the label shipped over half a million more albums than they even needed to.  What seems hopeful for Katy, however, is that it did turn out to sell a decent amount as much as people make fun of her.  It's right below 2.8 million.

This leads me to believe that her single success might set her up for higher album sales this next time.  I don't care about the silly stan popularity contest because I'm a fan of Gaga and Katy.  The only way I'll be mad, though, is if Katy's album flops as hard as her last one and Gaga still can't outsell it.  If Gaga get's 5 number one singles with ARTPOP and can't break 2.7 worldwide, that's a reason to be worried.

I think Selena's song is the perfect follow-up release.  It introduces something new to distinguish it from C&GI while still being similar enough to feed off of it's success.  Plus it includes some summer elements to fit nicely into radio rotation this next quarter.

Edit: The more I think about the concept behind Miley's new single, the more I like it.  If she were to do an up-tempo party song, she would have been criticized as a try-hard and putting to much effort into looking grown up. As it is, you can't really criticize for that with this release because it's completely chill.

I don't really think Same Love belongs on the radio. Love the message and the song itself, but it just sounds weird on radio, and the DJs don't really know what to say when they're introducing it, lmao. Not sure where the ceiling is in terms of radio airplay/sales for this song. I think they should have tried something else, or just moved on.

Selena ripped all those girls a new one. All three songs I've heard from her album and her video shows she's not messing around and actually trying to grow as an artist.

Btw - C&GI jumped to #4, but Miley forced her back to #5

I agree

She's budding perfectly as a pop star. I hope she keeps this direction. Don't get forced into making slow songs just for the sake of ''unique'', ''depth'' or ''variety''
