Did she lie tho? :classy: I agree about pop music being quite "submissive" etc, maybe I don't speak out about it but I definitely don't see a problem with Lorde doing so. And I'm glad someone is finally getting real about feminism in pop music.

But if that's how women choose to portray themselves then what's the issue?

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

What she doesn't understand about feminism, is feminism means that woman can be whoever they want to be and they are equal to men. She is slut shaming and against submissive women. If a woman wants to be submissive, that's her choice. Selena isn't relying on a man, but she wants him and will wait for him. Its her decision. Lorde isn't a parent, she's not ever 17.

Also, you guys REALLY need to learn what Shade is. Flat out stating an opinion isn't shade. Maybe everyone should stop trying to be a drag queen and just talk like themselves. Shade is subtle and b---hy, this is just an opinion...

+1

Lorde seems to think that women should be the only people left in this world. I wonder how she's like to men in real life.

Get real, Lorde.

Diamond Heart

i dont even like selena but seriously its just a song.

She seems incredibly pretentious for a 17 year old.

And what's the big deal? You can still be a feminist, and sing lyrics as such as in 'Come and Get It'. It looks as though, Lorde doesn't really understand what it means to be a true feminist.

I don't think it's that simple... :fat:

Key words "I'm sick of women being portrayed this way".

She didn't say Selena wasn't a feminist, she is again making a larger point that seems to sail over the heads of a lot of people.
Women are portrayed as very clingy and submissive way more often than guys are.

The very opening lines of Come and Get It are:

“It’s an open invitation / I’ll be sitting here real patient / All day, all night I’ll be waiting standby.â€

Instead of the message being "I like you, but you are not into me so I will move on" there is this very clingy "I will wait forever and I will always be there for you until I die - even if you are not there for me".
If this was a one off example then there wouldn't really be an issue. There are times that both men and women feel weak or are in an unhealthy relationship. The difference is that women are constantly portrayed in this fashion while men are hardly ever.

You know the other thread where you guys were bashing Lorde? She pointed out Lana's lyrics "I will love you to the end of time/ I will wait a million years". Notice how it seems to be the exact same portrayal of women? She is using specific examples to make a more general statement about how women are portrayed in pop music.
Men are hardly ever portrayed in that manner, the power balance is completely disproportionate.

Kermit the frog

What is wrong with Selena singing that? Women have the right to sing about s-x if they want it, but I guess its too early for a 16 y.o. to understand that. She needs to shut up cuz she's embarraasing herself.

I don't see her dissing Selena? She's just saying that she doesn't agree with the theme of a song which is fine, she didn't say it was a bad song, or that Selena couldn't sing, or anything targeted at Selena. Calm down people :noparty:

This.... I really hate Lorde now. Her Royals song is ok but her attitude is ****.
