faux 2,190
Really? She's not big in Europe/Asia? A little bit. In the UK maybe. She's not that popular here tbh.

hwyunicorn 0
This list is effed. I was expecting a list of artists with genuine talent and staying power. Hell, I was expecting to know who all the artists on the list were! Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Arcade Fire? What the hell? Phish, LCD Soundsystem, Wilco? Who the hell are they? But if there's one thing that makes this list remotely credible, it's the absence of Adele. Thank God Rolling Stone realises that the woman is just a flash in the pan waiting to happen, just like Norah Jones. She hasn't brought anything new to the table or strives to experiment and making music doesn't even seem to be something that she's that passionate about. Yes, 21 has cemented itself as a legendary album, it will forever be cemented in the bestsellers list and never forgotten. But one massive selling album doth not an immortal singer make. Norah Jones's debut sold as much as 21 and she isn't regarded as one of the greats, so why should Adele? Rihanna and Taylor Swift are pop music power houses. And even though I personally LOATHE taylor swift, and think she's absolutely the spawn of satan, I don't see her allure dying any time soon. I personally like Rihanna's music, and the amount of hits she's produced is amazing. They both have staying power, and even if their careers ended right now, they would have a whole library of hits. Not to mention the appeal TSwift has for younger audiences, which are as rabid as they come. I think they can be considered legends because of the amount of culturally impact they have, less about the quality of music they produced. The Arcade Fire is THE BEST ALT ROCK BAND OUT THERE right now. Seriously, every indie act known to man PRETENDS to be The Arcade Fire, but you can't match it. The Suburbs swept the Grammys a few years ago, and it is so well deserved. The orchestration, the lyrics, the overall cohesion of sound and music is unmatched. Gaga herself hasn't made (imo) an album as solid in theme or orchestration as The Arcade Fire constantly produces. If you don't know Phish -- apparently you aren't familar with the whole "Jam Band" era. Again, a band that takes so many different genres and intergrates them into one piece. They amount of talent they have as muscians is what makes them great - and the fact that even with limited air time, they've got a solid fan base. Showing you don't need to be constantly exposed to be great. Wilco is in a simlar ball park, with a career spanning about 20 years now. They were the orginals -- which is what makes them legends. I don't expect people to know who LCD Soundsystem is, but they really should (Check out Dance Yrself Clean -- it's so catchy I sometimes listen to it on repeat all day) . Gaga should give these guys a pat on the back -- cause without them, electronic music would still be for raves. You've probably heard more LCD Soundsystem songs then you even realize, they use them all the time in movies, televsion and advertisements. Beyond that, "Dance Punk" -- or whatever term you use for it -- was something that didn't exist before them, and now, nearly every popular artist is using a mixture of dance and rock beats. Gaga her self did it SUPER heavily on BTW. The fact that they only released 3 albums and were together for 10 years, and yet made such a monsterous effect on the music industry, is what makes them legends. I'll leave Adele floating in the air. She's certainly made an impact -- but she needs to do a bit more to be "legendary". Although being halfway to an EGOT (plus a Golden Globe) ain't a bad way to start yourself off.

Born Brave 2,072
The fact that Gaga hasn't been on radio steadily for well over a year and a half and she's still getting recognition as a true artists with legend status shows that she has staying power. Pop Muse Tumblr 1
A better a--logy would be Dianna Ross. 18 Billboard #1s, but the product of a hit machine (Motown) and not as respected as the more talented Aretha Franklin or Tina Turner. But still a huge icon and made RS's 100 greatest artists list (though towards the bottom). YES, PREACH! aretha singing for the president and tina filling football stadiums HAHAHAHAHA
